FYI
I never said that Paris wasn't necessarily any of those things. But by no means would that make any future Paris candidacy unbeatable, either, as has been the case before. And by you simply, & conveniently, always coming back to that doesn't change any of those points addressed before.

TheOtherRob
Brazil feels left out. Seriously though, it's good Paris is doing these fact-finding missions seemingly in preparation for a bid.

Roger87
Brazil feels left out. Seriously though, it's good Paris is doing these fact-finding missions seemingly in preparation for a bid. this news gave me the sense of Tokyo 2020 bid. There was a relevant opposition and concerns, but with clear steps they came to win. Maybe Paris, playing right, can follow the same result
stryker
Jean-Claude Killy is resigning from the IOC. While I realize he's 70 years old and he was a co-organizer for the Winter Olympics in Albertville, any chance he might consider heading up or at least assisting with a potential Paris bid? http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/more/news/20140329/jean-claude-killy-resigns-ioc.ap/?eref=si_more

Seriously though I think he’s a little too old to head a Paris bid. One of the criticisms levelled at the 2012 bidding team was that it was mainly made up of old men in grey suits…which btw was underserved. Incidentally it’ll be interesting to see who the ioc appoints as his replacement, French or not French. Either way the message will be received loud and clear….. Olympic Fan Darcy
With Durban now bidding for 2022 commonwealth games which they will surely win (unless something dramatic happens), this really increases Paris's chances. I can't see South Africa also bidding for the 2024 olympics. They seem to very reluctant when it comes to bidding (2020). Plus some IOC members might want to wait and see how the organizing goes for Durban. (2028 vote will be in 2021). Go Paris!

Roger87
With the recent news of Durban going to 2022 Commonwealth Games, this looks great to Paris in first sight -And also other European city-. Bonne chance, Paris!
runningrings
I would have no sympathy for Paris if they pass up this opportunity. They seem to have a knack for not choosing their fights wisely - like bidding for 2008 - and not for 2020 (and to a lesser extent, 2000) where they stood a better chance. I'm of the opinion that if they had bid, Paris could have easily trumped Sydney and Tokyo for 2000 and 2020 respectively.
yoshi
Come on Paris. With no Durban, an indecisive US, Asia out f the equation, & much of the rest of Europe with no money for a Games, combined with the centennial of 1924, you have NEVER had, & probably never will have, a better chance. Please, for Europe, for democratic countries, & for Paris & France, take that chance.

I'm just worried about the Socialist keeping a grip on the capitol. The Socialist are damaging France which could lead to having Marine La Pen as the President of France which will be bad news for an bid for both 2024 and 2028 France is not in a good shape for an Olympics Games they are becoming the next PIIGSF economy is failing and unemployment rising, While with Germany has a great economy strong government the superpower of Europe and has not hosted the games in the united Germany Berlin Germany will beat Paris France in the 2024 race France is not ready to host an Olympics Games yet they are in a mess now. TheOtherRob
Dislike button needed. France could've hosted two years ago, they could easily host in 2024. Edited April 1, 2014 by Rob.

So Paris is alike to Munich 2022, with the 50 years/Summer/Winter angle, unbeatable until it took itself out of the game. I'm not convinced yet we'll see a Paris bid. baron-pierreIV
Plus some IOC members might want to wait and see how the organizing goes for Durban. (2028 vote will be in 2021). Uhmmm, ever heard of World Cup 2010? Johannesburg also organized the All-Africa Games in 1999. Durban has hosted an IOC Session; the World Climatological Conference... I don't think the RSA has to prove any organizational thing to anybody in their quest for an Olympics. If anything, if they waited between a CWG 2022 and a SOG 2028; then they are quite stupid. mr.bernham
I think that with Heldagos Sunday victory, the national election will be very interesting. Im pulling for a far-right victory even if it is not beneficial to a possible 2024 bid, the main thing that should come before ANY Olympic Bid should be economic stability for a bidding nation. We have seen it time and time again, across Europe; Whenever the Socialist gain control the destroy the nations. Just look at Spain, Italy or Greece, France is heading down a similar road. France needs to take the time to fix its inner-problems before mounting a bid. With that said I would still love to see Paris bid for the 2024 games, but if it means 7 years of the IOC being on hands and needles watching the French economy spiral, then I think it would be best for them to sit it out. Furthermore France needs a party that is not far-left or far-right, a party that can find common ground and make France a strong nation again.
