Aussie bum Posted July 26, 2024 Report Posted July 26, 2024 Another Brit standing side by side and super excited for this ceremony and the next few weeks. I will never be more than I was for 2012's openening but I just don't know what to expect and I'm loving every moment. Just purchased a nice bottle of French red for this evening Quote

But I don't think I've been more intrigued about a ceremony than this one. I've mostly avoided the ceremonies threads here this time, so I'm looking forward to seeing how Paris does this! That's probably a better word - it also feels a bit less tense than 2012, knowing that it's not you that's being watched & judged . I've been following every thread, for every scrap of info available but it doesn't dull the excitement 1 Quote
sebastien1214 Posted July 26, 2024 Report Posted July 26, 2024 Super impatient yesterday but since this morning I have never looked at the weather so much in my entire life. It replaces impatience with anxiety. But if at the end it doesn't rain (or very, very little), then it will be forgiven. Quote
AustralianFan Posted July 26, 2024 Report Posted July 26, 2024 Several high speed train lines into France have been sabotaged halting services on those lines. Terrible news for all those heading to Paris for the Games and tonight’s Opening Ceremony. Here’s the report from the BBC about it: Quote

sebastien1214 Posted July 26, 2024 Report Posted July 26, 2024 Do you want to laugh? During the week Anne Hidalgo & Tony Estanguet swam in the Seine, the water quality was sufficient 6 days out of 7 of the week. You will never guess which was the 7th day when the water was not clean enough. https://www.francetvinfo.fr/les-jeux-olympiques/info-franceinfo-jo-de-paris-2024-l-eau-de-la-seine-etait-de-qualite-insuffisante-le-jour-ou-la-maire-de-paris-et-le-prefet-se-sont-baignes_6688197.html Quote

FYI Posted July 27, 2024 Report Posted July 27, 2024 So is this the Brits' way of payback for Jacques Chirac's comment for insulting British (& Finnish) food, on the eve of the crucial 2005 IOC vote for 2012? lol The British Olympic Team Has Picked a Food Fight With France: https://www.wsj.com/sports/olympics/british-team-food-fight-france-paris-c5bcf4f9 Quote
Bear Posted July 27, 2024 Report Posted July 27, 2024 https://olympics.com/ioc/news/ioc-statement-on-wrong-identification-of-the-team-of-the-republic-of-korea-noc-during-the-opening-ceremony Today, International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach spoke with the President of the Republic of Korea, Yoon Suk-yeol. In this telephone call, the IOC President apologised sincerely for the mistake in the audio broadcast of the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 last night, in which the team of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Korea (KSOC) was wrongly identified. The problem was identified as a human error, for which the IOC is deeply sorry. The IOC President was joined in the call by the CEO of Paris 2024, Étienne Thobois; by Yiannis Exarchos, CEO of Olympic Broadcasting Services; and by IOC Member and KSOC President Lee Kee-heung. The IOC President took the opportunity to congratulate the President of the Republic of Korea on the country’s first medal at these Games, which was a silver medal won by the 10m air rifle mixed team. sebastien1214 Posted July 28, 2024 Report Posted July 28, 2024 The atmosphere for swimming is exceptional. What a pleasure to see the Olympics again with an audience. 1 Quote
yoshi Posted July 28, 2024 Report Posted July 28, 2024 It's wonderful - & an inspired decision to use the rugby arena for it (same with the Grand Palais). The only sadness is how it makes me feel even more that Tokyo should've been given 32 or 36 after they had to host a closed games... but let's not dwell. The Olympics are back, & where better than Paris Quote
FYI Posted July 28, 2024 Report Posted July 28, 2024 ‘32 was off the table for obvious reasons, & who knows, Tokyo probably doesn’t want another Olympics anytime soon after what they just went through. Easy to say the IOC should’ve just given them another Games, but if the Japanese are not interested, then that’s it. Case in point, Sapporo 2030 would’ve been a sure thing for them, to kinda make up for 2020, & they still weren’t interested. 1 Quote
krow Posted July 28, 2024 Report Posted July 28, 2024 paris is so real for these venues. it's literally something out of a sofia coppola wet dream. 1 Quote
yoshi Posted July 28, 2024 Report Posted July 28, 2024 I know it always looked like it was gonna be a special venue but Place de la Concorde looks amazing Quote

Ikarus360 Posted July 28, 2024 Report Posted July 28, 2024 Most venues lool very beautiful so far. The Brand is also working nicely and not being distracting at all. I just wish they had a bit more fun with the colors than just purple or blue though. Quote

The venues have exceeded my expectations in how they look. The look of the games and the incorporation of the venues in front of iconic sites just look beautiful and much better and iconic than I expected. A truly great and iconic Olympic Games! Quote
