So that's what what the webcam shows is supposed to look like! It certainly looks impressive - is it actually shooting them at the other monuments lol, the Eiffel Tower turned bad

Chaos in public transportation day before Opening!    How will workers, spectators move around?  More importantly, how will emergency vehicles (including those who HAVE to get to the hospitals ASAP, function?  God help you if you get a heart attack, premature birth, an appendicitis attack or some sort of grand seizures.

All sessions start with les trois coups (the three blows).

It's a tradition in French theatre: all plays start with someone hitting the floor three times with a stick. That sequence has been pimped to be used during the Games.

Fun Google Doodle today (it’s also animated)!

And now the Big Day’s arrived I just want to wish everyone a Great Games!!!

To our French members, particularly @sebastien1214, @Cyriln, @cfm Jeremie, @DamC (and other who I can’t remember right at the moment), soak it up! Enjoy! It’s really a special time, so make the most of it.

To those who are visiting Paris, @StefanMUC, @Victorian, @Nacholympic and others, hope you have the time of your lives! Do post to let us know your experiences.

And to the rest of us watching on TV and posting here, let’s all geek out!

And so, the 3 most important high-speed lines in the country have been attacked and will not be restarted before Monday in the best case scenario.

I hope you're wrong there and they're repairing quickly, we want to take the train on Sunday morning (via Strasbourg)...

He's German, with Deutsche Bahn he must be used to plan Bs!

Oh definitely! But not in this case actually as I was intentionally booking the one direct connection without depending on the Deutsche Bahn changeover times...

Stop pls, if this goes on we Brits are gonna become known for good weather & a functional railway & I'm not sure we'll be able to cope with the existential angst that'll cause

(On a serious note, it's cloudy but dry here - I'd swap our dry weather tonight for that Paris rainstorm in a heartbeat to keep the ceremony dry. All my fingers crossed for some last minute luck)

(On another serious note, there are no words to describe whoever it is has wrecked the TGV network :angry::angry:)

TV working.

GamesBids account still active after 21 years.

Another ceremony hours away.

Good luck Paris and Vive La France, (at least for tonight!)

Good to see you again, Rob! It really feels like a reunion to me, nice that we can meet again during each new edition of the Olympic Games! And bonne chance, Paris et la France, also from me! I will keep my fingers crossed for you. Unlike our English friends, Germans will always be by your side. 😝

We're all by your side tonight - I can't speak for everyone but I'm more excited for tonight than I was at this time on July 27 2012. It'll be a ceremony like nothing before, however it goes. I really hope it's a success & I think we all do :)

No, definitely not more excited than I was in 2012! But I don't think I've been more intrigued about a ceremony than this one.

I've mostly avoided the ceremonies threads here this time, so I'm looking forward to seeing how Paris does this!
