A documentary has just been aired on France 2 about Paris Olympics bids (very quickly on 1992 and 2008, longer on 2012 but mainly on 2024). I guess everybody here knows how it went down but it's interesting to discover insiders' points of view (mainly from Paris 2024, but Casey Wasserman and Gene Sykes are also interviewed for LA, and Christophe Dubi and Thomas Bach for the IOC) seven years later.

Here's the link https://www.france.tv/documentaires/documentaires-sport/6256697-paris-l-histoire-secrete-de-la-victoire.html but I'm wondering if it could be published globally, with an English version: it is copyrighted IOC and Bach doesn't speak French in the film...

I just survived F76 rambling on in French in that other docu (watched it on F2 last night), have taped this one probably to watch today. Thanks.

Doesn’t seem to be a Team USA thread yet, so I’ll post this here for the moment:

LeBron James to be Team USA’s male flag bearer for Olympic Opening Ceremony

And the male German flag bearer will be also a basketballer (again after Nowitzki in Beijing): Dennis Schröder, captain of our WC winners. Official announcement tomorrow along with the female one (there was an online poll running for several days with 3 nominations each, has been done like this since Tokyo I think to increase public engagement - Schröder beat Christian Reitz (shooting gold in Rio but little known) and Alex Zverev who despite his tennis merits and as Olympic champion is still not much of a public fave after the court case about alledged abuse of his ex-gf).

Of course Schröder winning this vote will trigger the „anti-wokisme“ gang as he‘ll be the first black German to carry the flag.

So the weather for the Opening is looking so-so right now, chance of rain earlier in the day. Looks like the crapiest day for the Games will be Saturday, the 27th, with high chances for rain all day. But then it should clear up after that. As of now, looks like the hottest day of these Games will be Tuesday, the 30th, with a high of 88 degrees. That's still cooler than what Tokyo 2020ne was, though.

Why the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics are already an expensive nightmare for many locals and tourists:

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/2024-paris-summer-olympics-expensive-nightmare-for-residents-and-tourists/

I've said before that I certainly wouldn't want to deal with the great disruptions that the Olympic Games bring on. And it also flies in the face of the old "let's just find a permanent home for the Olympics" every four years suggestion that gets flown about every-so-often. Cause I seriously doubt that the Parisians would want to do this again anytime soon.

It could be done if the venues are located in an Olympic Park outside the city center. The venue plan for Paris 2024 is very unique. If you move the OC away from the Seine to the Stade de France and the urban sports away from Concorde, it becomes a much more manageable affair.

Nice to see the Stade de France finally achieve its destiny. The Olympic rings look good on it, & you'd never think it was 26! Good luck with everything around the Games, & as Guilga says, enjoy it all. It really is very special to see a home Olympics & I hope this is worth all the waiting & the challenges there's been on the way. And although I'm not a huge follower of rugby, & obviously everyone loves Fiji, I do hope Les Bleus can get that gold & ignite the whole Games :)

They promised a Games in the city. It doesn't get much better than that. The urban sports will be highlights of the whole Olympics in that setting.
