organizing committees and horny corporate media are obsessed by all the hypothetical anonymous (straight) sex they think the athletes are having at the olympics, which they imagine to be this hormonal frenzied saturnalia straight out of gore vidal's caligula.

maybe that's exaggerated, or maybe not.

for reference there's this disgusting, can't-look-away train wreck of investigative journalism (circa london) where athletes go on record to deliver penthouse forum levels of fantasy sexploits they were clearly making up out of thin air just to **** with ESPN (dear penthouse, i never thought this would happen to me....in a hot tub with ryan lochte and the brazilian women's soccer team....took a team of doctors four hours to remove his gold medal with a pair of surgical forceps...with the business end of the closing ceremony flagpole....in a drunk threeway on the pommel-horse with vince vaughn and bjork....).

‘French security services arrest far-right extremist over suspected Paris Olympics plot’:

I am really surprised, because we are told repeatedly in the French media that the great threat to France is the Islamo-leftists with their wokisme :rolleyes:

Speaking of security: in a little less than 7 hours, around 25% of Paris will begin to be confined in what is the largest internal security operation since probably the Second World War. The start of 8 days of intense stress for all intelligence agencies and police (& military) forces in this country.

I still can’t get over that! “Woke” in France is “wokisme”! :lol:

But yes, the hypocrisy is glaring, isn’t it! it certainly is here ATM, that’s for sure!

I remember when they were looking for the Boston marathon bomber right after, & they totally shut down all of Boston for a moment in order to look for him. Some were saying that it was also a “test” in order to see how quick & effective it was to totally shut down a major American city on the notice if need be.

The balloon is a bit dowdy though - if it was gonna be a key part of the cauldron design would it just be a big white egg? The idea of a balloon makes sense - especially if it becomes mobile. Every aspect of Paris 2024 seems to have a "first" attached so a first fully mobile cauldron would fit...

Perhaps it’s still to be decorated.

The Montgolfier balloon…

I really like the idea of the hot air balloon, for the symbolic/historical aspect. On the other hand, when we move on from the Beijing 2022 Olympic "flame", anything else will be genius.

But I wonder how it will turn out (if it is indeed this hot air balloon idea). I'm curious to see the final result. In any case, once again, it seems that Paris 2024 decides for the umpteenth time to “break the rules”.

Not gonna work.  Unless they've spent like $25 million for R&D, I don't see how a helium filled hot-air balloon can make a nice and symbolic cauldron.  So once it flies away, what will the Tuileries visitors look at?

And they took it away from the 2nd level of the Eiffel, only to create something even more challenging, engineering-wise but doesn't make any practical sense?

How about this -- the final torch -- like the aneurysm it was designed after -- will start to swell and expand like a balloon or puffer fish (from that 4"inch diameter) and then explode in a cascade of beautiful pyrotechniquex??  :P

Or better yet . . .  LOL!!

Also, after they've cleaned up the Seine & Anne & Tony swam in it, won't all the refuse of the pyrotechniqueax mess up the river again and render it unusable for the Swim events?  I love their planning processes.

The official app now has clickable schedules and Instagram filters inside it as well.

This is how event pages look like;

These popping up are always a sign that the games really are that close to start.

Now, some highlights of the filters;

I downloaded it the other day but haven’t played with it yet.

Bach is getting skinny. lol  And is that Tony E. all the way on the left there?

If it is, he's not looking as ragged as he was even a few months ago. I'd say he's even looking like he's bulking up (is he stealing Bach's wheaties, perhaps :lol:)!

Nevermind! I see Tony E. (which still looks better than a few months ago) up there with Bach towards top center. Still, that guy on the lower left looks like he could be his twin brother. Anyone know who he is?

Are you already scouting for the “Hot Bods” thread? :ph34r:

Ah, automatic updates. Having seen what they can do on my laptop (well my old one anyway, seems to be much better on my current one), I'm amazed anyone takes them for stuff that actually matters. Pretty big woops though, it'll take some sorting out :ph34r:

An Augmented Reality section has been added th the Olympics/Paris 2024 app. If you think all the secrets of the opening ceremony are hidden into the posters, you have the possibility to dive into the night version of the posters (by loooking at the daylight poster through your phone). The night poster is animated: fireworks, flying planes...

There are also other experiences, like having a Phryge with a moustache doing crêpes, sitting on your head (because why not).
