Paris 2024

it looks so pleasing visually, probably one of the nicer Olympic venues so far

Agreed, it looks good. Lots of natural light too. I like the way it is integrated into the Olympic precinct and close to Stade De France, with a nice wide pedestrian bridge over the freeway.

Reminds me too of the Saddledome at Calgary 1988 (below):

All of the diving events in Paris will be held either from 10am-12pm or 3pm-5pm.  So they'll get a lot of daylight to work with at that venue

But that new Aquatic Center is a covered facility.  So daylight shouldn't matter for it.  Proper artificial lighting for Diving and Artistic Swimming should be enuf so that those events are not dependent on daylight which will be diffused anyway.

The natural light is for the legacy use of this venue but athletes, spectators and officials too will appreciate this more open transparency of this venue, rather than the feeling of being in a fully enclosed box with no vision of the outside world.

Olympic Events themseIbes will need broadcast standard bright artificial lighting no matter what time of day or night competition takes place - but the transparency on the ends and sides of this venue will be widely appreciated.

I'm thinking more of Richmond Olympic Oval, especially with the wood design:

Paris seems to be on track to breaking the Olympic record... in police investigations...

Tokyo has set the standard I guess. Rio didn‘t do badly either. And not to forget the old classic SLC.

Couldn’t happen in Russia or China.

BTW…in this connection this is also worth pointing out (baron’s buddy’s salary vs IOC salaries):

Yeah, there was a good full story on this (in English) by Weinreich in The Inquisitor:

Olympic status quo: IOC directors earn more money than athletes, Olympic champions – and more than any IF

HUH?  What are you talking about?  LIBEL!  Never have I even remotely (or with a wink) claimed to know or even be on the same wavelength as actually - YOUR COUNTRYMAN!  So shut your trap, Stefan!!

Wow, I love this. Such a smart idea, and presumably not too costly or complicated to do. Nice designs as well.

(I do wonder if there's a bloke in Paris who's just got a big wad of Euros for spinning a yarn...reminds of the time we went to Berlin and a couple of my mates bought 'pieces of the Berlin Wall'. I'm absolutely convinced there's just a guy with a cement mixer behind the souvenir shop....surely they're not still selling it 20 years on?!)

Considering the summer medals are always far more constrained design-wise than the winter ones, the French did a great job literally putting heir “stamp” on them. And cheeky transporting the Eiffel Tower to Athens for the back. Nice and classic (as the summer medals always are).

So they’re still selling those bits of Stasi rubble? You’d think they’d have run out in the 90s, though I guess there was a lot of wall. Our times’ version of splinters of the True Cross I guess.

Makes you wonder then, what could be coming along the pipe for L.A. & Brisbane.

Paris has met the brief regarding Olympic medals perfectly. They are truly stunning, the best yet. So stylish, so chique, so French.

In my opinion, Paris has really excelled when it comes to the design brief - logo, look, pictograms, medals, mascot - all executed well, enough innovation to move hem forward without trying to hard or being outlandish.

So what’s still to come? Podiums? Volunteer uniforms? Starting to get a sense it’s really ticking down.
