They'll do anything to disrupt a well-organized event they don't like. Remember, "volunteerism" is basically an "American" concept.

I don't think Paris 2024 could get the French wine industry to accede to its terms; hence their wine will not be served in the OVs.

baron-pierreIV
/\/\ The thing with haute 3-Michelin-stoile cuisine and feeding an Olympic Village is that the slow, painstaking preparation of food and the 2-3 hour degustation of such food as is normal in high-end French restaurants DO NOT translate in an OV Village cafeteria setting. Food preparation in an OV is more cruise ship-style rather than "French Laundry." You are feeding thousands of hungry bodies for nearly 18 waking hours a day. Most of these meals are on the run and they would have to be rich in carbs.
Nacre
There's a lot of French food beyond haute cuisine, though.

baron-pierreIV
I don't know how they are going to feed I assume the 8,500 athletes and officials attending the OC at Trocakdero. I imagine they wil start boarding the barges at 1700 until I guess 1800. That's about dinner time for everyone. So, will they have prepared dinner/lunch boxes to be given out on the barges?? Imagine about 10,000 lunch boxes to be parcelled out per capacity of each barge. And then athletes, etc. will just have to eat their meals (fried chicken) on their laps because they will have taken the tables out. So, you can just imagine all the soiled and spoiled uniforms at Opening Ceremony. PLUS, the matter of clean up of 9,000+ lunch boxes, bottles of water, etc.,etc. But if not, then, participants will have dinner BEFORE 1700 or after 2300 when they get back to OV. I do not see them setting up kitchens & tables at Trockadero to feed them there?? Or will they?? Oy. The stupid things Estanguet set up for himself and his team. FYI
Why am I not surprised!! What surprises me, though, is that it's taken this long for the protesters to start protesting about the Olympics over this. I've mentioned as such just last month when some on here mentioned about a French 2030 "knight in shining armor" bid. No way, Jose. Not when you have this element of the French public so upset over the pension reform law right now. It would've been smart for Macron to wait 'til the Paris 2024 Olympics were over to propose & apply this very unpopular new law over there. What was he thinking. More protests against the Games might surely follow now, especially as we get closer to July 2024. That said, the Games will go as planned, but all this talk about France 2030 coming to the rescue at the very last minute.. yeah, sure. baron-pierreIV
Now methinks that the French, avoiding retiring at 62, are AMONG the laziest people in the industrialized world. Macron had to get it started because it will take a few years for that thing to congeal and get set up. These provincial froggies are nutsos!! FYI
That would be besides the point. Waiting another +year wouldn't have made or broken the French piggy bank. But it would've curtailed what is starting to unravel now. This is just another layer of protesting against the Games that could've been easily avoided & surely one that the IOC didn't need or want. Especially in a time when they're already struggling to get quality candidates onboard for future Games (i.e. 2030). Bach & Co. must've also been asleep at the wheel over this latest conundrum. Although, they probably still don't care, if someone else is paying their bills.
StefanMUC
I got the impression the overall protests are fading out now that the law has passed the parliamentary hurdles. While the Olympics may be an obvious target still, I guess Macron wanted to push through with this so that there‘s a chance of things cooling down before the European Parliament elections next May or at least by next French elections in 2027, where he cannot stand anyway. So maybe the IOC even asked him to wait and he decided to put his own agenda before the IOC‘s, which of course would again highlight how much or rather little power the Bach gang really has nowadays. Bear
Despite the protests, Paris has really impressed the IOC-CC: Quote Speaking after the Commission’s latest three-day visit, Belgium’s Pierre-Olivier Beckers-Vieujant announced: "We are confident that Paris will be ready to host the Games next year - and not just any Games, but a new type of Games. "They will be unique, innovative, spectacular. "They will be fully inclusive, sustainable, responsible and useful to society. "We are convinced of this after our visit here - Paris will be a turning point of the organisation of the Games in the modern era. "There will be a before and after for the Paris 2024 Games - we are convinced of this. "The Paris 2024 ambitions and confidence are higher than ever. "There are no delays - everything is on schedule. "We have been delighted to see that, for the very first time, we have not worried about the Games opening on time because everything has already been pretty much built and a beautiful job has been done. "Paris is where it should be 415 days before the Opening Ceremony." baron-pierreIV
Wow. Never heard of this project before. And how odd that it's never been connected to the preps for 2024, like the fix on Notre Dame Cathedral is. But I think the OV project is probably bigger??
