Paris 2024

Recommended Posts

The gas leak is going great! Thousands of people being displaced. However, the key difference is that the leak isn't a national economic emergency, but rather a state health emergency because of an incompetent and greedy gas company.

Okay, semi-rant over. 2024 is in 8 years. There's no doubt that French and LA leaders will both be working hard to fix whatever went wrong. We can't go around and slug articles at each other saying "city x is incapable of holding the Olympics because y happened!" What we can do is wait and see how LA will be handling the clean up and situation with SoCal Gas, and how France will handle their restructuring. Based on that we can see how the Olympics are going to impact them or vice versa. Simply saying 'there's an issue' won't be enough to justify an inability to host.

It's not that they're incapable of hosting because certain things like the gas leak, it's more of WHY are you bidding and why should you get the games when you have a good number of domestic issues affecting your residents that you have to deal with yet have no clear solution to solving them? If the IOC members took this question serious, Rio would never have happened, nor would Beijing 2022. But we all know they don't so the gas leak becomes a non-issue. The economical situation in all of France, however, becomes worrisome because of what's currently happening in Rio, and what did happen in Sochi. But France is not the cesspool that is Brazil and Russia and they have the means to bounce back.

How's the gas leak?

You'll have to post those stories in the L.A. thread, since the overzealous recipient that you're intending it for never ventures out of that thread.

Tell that to the over-rambunctious L.A. cheerleader that whenever anything negative that might impact the other candidates, "is running the wire", they're all too quick to just post it here (well, more specifically the "L.A. 2024 thread") so as to give off the impression that "mighty" L.A. can "do no wrong" & therefore "has this in the bag" mentality.

France is not proposing to spend the mega-Billilons that China & Russia did, though. And France's infrastructure is certainly ahead of Brazil's. Quite frankly, comparing France to any of those is disengenuous at best, or blantantly off at worst.

Yes, it was supposed to be directed at the guy but I guess I'm just going to have to be more blunt next time >.>

France declares economic state of emergency.

I won't be surprised if all the European bids drop out. It wouldn't be the first cycle either.

No problem, Paris 2024 has found €2 million :P

I definitely think it makes no sense to downplay or up play a bid because of the current economic climate. When Rio bid for 2016 it was one of the top 5 emerging global markets was it not? The Olympics were supposed to be the coming out Party for Brazil but look at the change of the past 7 years. They are in a major economic decline, widespread corruption, who could have foreseen that back in 09 and I was a big fan of having the games in RIO.

Paris is in no way in a worse position because of their economy right now and the IOC knows that. They're still the front runner. I believe however that what it will come down too is what is finalized in that bid book. What is Paris' plan because we all have to remember that the bidding process is simply selling a dream.

I didn't get to finish the above post

whatever the dream is be it for the games to be in europe, the games to make the most money, the games to come back to prominence as an event countries should want to host and not feel burdened by it. If the bid book of Paris does that then they are already ahead of the curve seeing that the ion already seems to like the idea of a Paris 2024. However LA2024 is making it tough for them. They are mounting a strong possible bid and with each controversy or economic upswing or downturn it makes the competition closer.

I truly think it will come down to the wire for this race. which leads me to a question for the veterans. When was the last race that you followed that had two strong contenders that you thought could go either way. And I am not talking about a front runner who fell surprisingly early like Chicago I mean a true 2 horse race.

The website to be unveiled on february 17, same day as the official presentation of the concept and vision.

At the time being, it can be seen a slogan: le rêve nous rassemble (the dream brings us together)

Subtly, the slogan could perhaps be more precisely translated as "the dream brings us back together".

been thinking that this snippet might be of a cursive "i" within the word Paris. They haven't been shy from using words as their emblems for the past few tries, so why stop now?

What? You didn't reference the GB story instead?! http://gamesbids.com/eng/featured/paris-2024-set-to-boost-campaign-with-new-olympic-bid-logo-and-website/

I've seen the logo - I think the consensus will be pleased. Watch our story to come out at exactly 20:24.
