I applaud Paris 2024 and their efforts. Bullshit aside, LA would have fucking DELIVERED, but under a Trump presidency, it should take a seat and let Paris do its thing. Americans don't deserve the Olympics and I pray to god that Paris wins. LA, its not your fault, you are a fantastic city....but your fellow Americans are a piece of ****. LA 2024, so sorry it had to end like this.
Rob.
It's a wee bit embarrassing for America that if LA24 continues on it's now in a position where it could legitimately be targetted by groups who want to keep the Games away from nations with authoritarian leaders. If we criticise Putin for his anti-gay rhetoric in the build up to Sochi what are the rest of the world meant to make of Donald "grab em by the pussy" Trump and Mike "conversion therapy" Pence? I hope France's run-off system makes a President Le Pen less likely than a President Trump. But frankly, I'm done with predictions. For all the criticism of the IOC awarding the Games to authoritarian nations, it would be terribly ironic if they found themselves in a position this time around where they have no choice but to share the Olympic glitz with a far-right egoist. Even Thomas Bach - who seems to me incompetent and compromised rather than a malicious figure - doesn't deserve that. Edited November 9, 2016 by Rob. baron-pierreIV
LA put themselves into this pickle. They'll have to put on a brave face and continue this. I am more worried about the 2026 World Cup bid because nearly all of that campaign will happen in Donald Duck's presidency.

Athan
Paris has always been the favourite for 2024 regardless of who the US President is, but I wouldn't dare to say LA 2024 is automatically dead just because of Trump's victory. There are many more factors to be considered. In any case, if LA 2024 really had no chance now, would you also rule out a US bid for 2028 considering that the bid process will start in 2019 with Trump still in office? Or could he encourage his hometown NYC to bid instead of LA?
Nacre
While Los Angeles should pull the bid, I don't think it will. The USOC has to stay friendly with the executive branch and the IOC. This will only die if the mayor of LA or the IOC want it to go away. 4 hours ago, JesseSaenz said: LA, its not your fault, you are a fantastic city....but your fellow Americans are a piece of ****. I know this won't be a popular opinion, but I think this result is more of a vote against Hillary Clinton and mainstream politicians than a vote for Trump. I could be wrong though: I spent two months in Alaska, six in Washington and one in New Mexico this year. The great other that is the east coast is not my thing, so I am an outside observer. Ansem
In all objectivity, I don't see how LA can beat Paris after last night. I wasn't surprised by Trump's victory, but by how much he won... That being said...@Americans: You guys are crashing our Immigration Canada website. Nacre
The irony is that Canada is NOT a mass-immigration country, but a controlled immigration country. It is easier to get into Canada than the USA if you are a Pakistani programmer or a Nigerian doctor, but if you are uneducated and poor it is just as hard to legally emigrate to Canada as the USA, and a great deal harder to illegally get into Canada. Canada is a better run country than the USA (especially its healthcare system) but it is not the socialist utopia some Americans think of it as. Canada is actually harder. My fiancee watches 90 days fiancee where would be spouse get a 90 days visa and get to stay when it happens. Nope, not Canada. Marrying a Canadian won't make you a citizen. You'll have to go through the whole process that can take up to 2 years

baron-pierreIV
I think what's going to be more interesting, to stay on topic on this board, is what if DOnald Duck gets it into his head that New York should bid for 2028? What will the USOC and LA then do? And then, OK, New York becomes the 2028 candidate. And then DT loses in 2020? Wouldn't that be a conundrum? Or maybe the USOC can work out some sort of a compromise? The SOGs in LA; the 2026 World Cup finals in New York??
StefanMUC
I don't think he has any interest in Olympics or WC anyway, no matter where. Apart from 2024 (if we have to put up with him for a second term), none of that would happen during his own time in office, so can't bolster his own ego (and probably business interests), so why care about such stuff? Especially when it would mean potentially bowing to the IOC or FIFA?

Quaker2001
I sincerely doubt LA 2024 is actually going to pull the plug on an Olympic bid simply because the wrong guy won the presidential election. Wouldn't be a good look for them if they pulled out here and tried to return for another run in 2028. Not to mention we're closer in time to the vote than we were the deadline to submit. Their chances of winning probably took a hit from the Trump win and we can all make jokes how they're done for. But their chances of winning before yesterday were not 0%. And they're still not 0%. 3 hours ago, baron-pierreIV said: I think what's going to be more interesting, to stay on topic on this board, is what if DOnald Duck gets it into his head that New York should bid for 2028? If he was going to push for something like that, he'd more likely do it as a businessman with interests in New York, not as a politician. He's got more important things to worry about now. And you really started to trail off with that stream of consciousness towards the end there.

FYI
16 minutes ago, Ansem said: To potentially face Toronto? I think the US would have a better chance with New York City Yeah, sure. But the timing just isn't right for a bid from New York City ATM that would make sense for the city, at least not as soon as 2028 anyway. It's been discussed ad naseum already (even in this thread) that Los Angeles is the city that makes the most sense, as far as cost effectiveness & what works best for a city "agenda 2020" wise, for a Olympic U.S. city bid for now. Gee, I don't know.. perhaps having your name on the presidency of the United States of America? Trump could have gotten in on the action when NYC bid for 2012. It didn't interest him then. He has his name on plenty of buildings. Yea, maybe a stadium would be a pretty big monument to his ego. But at this point, the fact he's going to be residing in the White House for the next 4 years probably trumps (pun very much intended) anything else he could possibly attach his name to. So yea, I know we're on an Olympic bidding site here, but let's not pretend that because you hold the Olympics in such high regard that the soon-to-be POTUS would feel the same way.
