Funny that you would say that because the games in 1984 were probably 25x's more expensive than 1932 & probably at least twice the size. Sure, it not only was possible, but it was fk'n pretty roses and history simple repeated. One could say it was naive and...

The Organizing Committee never furnished financial information (not one sentence!) in

their final report. Newspaper accounts claimed over 1 million spectators and $1,000,000 in

profits “after all expenses are paid and all bonds are retired.” (N.Y. Times, Aug. 17, 1932,

p.2)

What's interesting about that is that the same section notes that the cost of the Coliseum (built in anticipation of the Olympics, but not as a direct result) was NOT included in those totals. So we don't really know the full costs of `32 Olympics, but thank you for that speculation.

This post really says more about you than it does me. The bid centers around these topics and this is the LA thread. Just like Paris' bid is discussed in that thread. And yes, I read that thread. But unlike you I don't disrupt that thread by shooting down the points that make it unique. Your whole I understand more than you bullshit it you giving yourself a license to be a dick, but you're really coming off as an arrogant stalker, and you're displaying it again with Paul, as you have with CityofDreams and anybody who has contributed to this thread. You should STFU, but you're a self righteous piece of work and will continue to justify your crap behavior under the guise that you know better and are some kind of authority. And your groupies are no different.

That's rich. Let's take another trip in the wayback machine..

For a clearer picture here can anyone enlighten us on Paris' bid. On the technical front where is Paris? Also as far as aligning with agenda 2020 where is Paris conspired to the Los Angeles bid? What is Paris' cultural penetration in the audience that the IOC wants to reach? I have seen a lot of vague comments about LA's bid and I really don't want to resort to opinions. I'd rather get down to the meat here and understand the technicals more.

You posted that in a USA thread asking for people to discuss Paris. Your first handful of posts all talked about Paris and every single one of them came in a USA or Los Angeles thread. If you're going to use the LA thread as a basis to make comparisons to Paris (especially if you're only posting here and not taking those comparisons there, where they're equally valid), don't try and tell people what and where they can discuss their points. There's not a line drawn in the sand LA has to stay on 1 side and Paris on the other. It's only natural that comparisons are made between the cities and if that's happening here, it's hardly off topic or shooting down points for this to be the venue for that. Good luck trying to control this conversation though.

Also, I must have missed the forum rules that prohibit disagreeing with someone else. Forgive the rest of us for not sharing your sunshine and rainbows view of LA and their Olympic bid. This is you sometimes trying to talk about LA..

If we think your points that make this thread unique are full of crap, we're going to tell you that. We're not obligated to share your utopian view of LA's Olympic bid that they can do no wrong, so when the hyperbole goes a bit over the top, don't get so uppity when a half dozen people tell you to tone it down. And acknowledge that some here may not feel the same way you do about LA and might (shudder) disagree with you. If you choose not to post elsewhere (good for you that you read other threads, but only post here), then you're inviting all the discussion to come here and don't get to decide what gets discussed, especially since a lot of these discussions were had before you joined this forum.

FYI, my arguments in my previous post about Euros aren't about the hooligans who are going their. I spoke to the first hand fact that the French can not control the transportation disruptions. The constant strikes, a theme that routinely plays out in French society is causing more disruptions than the hooligans. Flights, trains buses trams are all being cancelled due to the strikes standing spectators all over the country. It is well documented that the French went on strike right before the IOC visit during the 2012 process, All I am saying is that their persist a very important question can the french not only deliver the games but deliver spectators to the venues. I just returned from France and this is proving to be a highly Embarrassing matter over there. as the locals have become so accustomed to it over there. It may not be a nail in the coffin but it's definitely not a good look

Oh man. My trip to Paris in June 2014 was nothing short of a god damn nightmare.

The taxis went on strike to protest Uber/Lyft in the EU. Shortly thereafter, in a show of solidarity with the Taxi unions, the transit system also went on strike.

It was so fucking hot and humid with no cloud cover.

The heat was intense and everyone was tired and angry. I couldn't believe that a taxi union had entirely crippled the French capital.

We saw a poor woman running in heels with a wedding dress on to her wedding because her limo was not moving due to the traffic gridlock. Police cars were also stuck and could not move.

I was so exhausted and sunburned by the end of the day that I cancelled all the nightlife activities I had planned.

The French need to work better at preventing this. It's become so routine now.

Oh damn! With Raggi winning the mayoral election in Rome that's not a good sign for LA.

Rome most likely would take some votes away from Paris in an opening round ballot thus splitting the Europe vote, giving LA a chance to sneak in. However if Rome loses credibility with an unsupportive mayor or gets pulled all together then most likely all those Rome votes will go Paris' way. LA needs Rome in this race.

Except Quaker that quoting one post doesn't really capture the context, but since I posted that I can tell you that it was in response to stupid shoot downs like the ones you do here and self justify. So learning about the competing post when all you do is talk sh!t about this bid might prompt one to ask about what it is that you think is so strong about the other. That doesn't appear to be what you are interested in doing either.

What I'm interesting in doing is having an objective discussion about the 2024 Olympic bid cities. Which makes it difficult to discuss and debate things with you because you have a tendency to not be objective. And I think you know that. From the very first post when you joined here, you made it abundantly clear that your mission here was to clear up misinformation and then blow sunshine up our collective asses about LA. Not everyone is going to share those viewpoints and I remember replying to 1 of your posts a while back that if you were looking for a "safe space" to express all your happy thoughts about LA where everyone would share that positive energy, you're on the wrong website. If you were hoping to turn this into a place where those "shoot downs" don't occur, you are definitely on the wrong website.

So yea, if you wanted to hear opinions on what people thought was so strong about the Paris bid, why didn't you ask that question in the Paris thread? You're the one who just said "The bid centers around these topics and this is the LA thread. Just like Paris' bid is discussed in that thread." I assume that logic also applies to Jesse Saenz (or is it JesseSeanz since apparently those are 2 separate posters) who just went off on a rant about his personal experience in Paris and could have possibly have had less to do with LA. Pretty confident if I posted something like that, you would jump on me for straying off topic.

Unfortunately, people treat each other like sh1t on these forums. Everyone has their opinions, some stronger than others, and some more based in reason and logic than others. And it's a high school mentality to lump those with similar opinions together and to be a douchebag to those on the other side. I'm aware I'm as guilty of that as anyone.

But let's clear something up here.. am I not allowed to talk sh1t about the bid? Are negative opinions not allowed? You've said it yourself.. we see eye to eye on some things more than either of us would like to admit. But I stand by my thinking that LA's technical merit, while impressive (although not quite the version you're presenting) will likely lose out to the package Paris offers which, according to the 2012 bid evaluations, hardly is lacking on the technical side. But I do NOT agree with other posters who have hinted they think it's virtually a done deal for Paris to win if they don't fu©k it up themselves and LA is powerless to do anything about that. So don't lump me in with them and offer up blanket insults in response to those who talk about "LA boosters." Again, par for the course here. It sucks, but if you don't have thick enough skin to handle that, too bad.

If you want to have an objective discussion, first thing you need to do is stop replying to the lunatic

FINALLY someone said it! Look I'm more of an LA2024 supporter than a Paris2024 supporter, but this guy is by far worse than TeamBlake and Tony. It's amazing how easily frustrated everyone gets and lose their s**t with those two yet this guy just drags things on and on and y'all are always getting suckered in by them lol. Y'all have too much god damn time on your hands get a hobby. Or masturbate more.

Oh mah gah it's awful outside! It was like an oven today! And, being that I live in the SGV, I could see the fires in the San Gabriels over in the Azusa/Duarte area.

It was so hot on my drive this afternoon (112 degrees!!), that after work, I went and got an ube milkshake.

LA 2024 gets full support from the Mayors of all major American cities (Populations over 30K)

"NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the United States Conference of Mayors fully supports Los Angeles’ candidacy and urges the International Olympic Committee to select Los Angeles as the Host City for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games."

Domino's Would Be A Good Sponsor For LA 2024 Bid.

I get the feeling Tesla Motor Company will play a role in all of this LA 2024 stuff.

Maybe United or American as the official Airline.

Curious to see who they have reached out to. AirFrance was a no brainer and it was smart of them to attach the logo on the sides of their planes.

I think United is already the official airline sponsor for the Olympics. They did have that commercial for the winter olympics play everywhere.

 Do you see Tesla loaning/donating a fleet of their $100,000 cars to be trashed by Olympic volunteer drivers? Olympic sponsorships includes loaning / giving many of your products to the organization. Where Nissan or GM can lend say,a fleet of their $18,000 sedans for the OCOG's use and which can carry as many passengers (say, the press teams) as possible, do you really see Tesla doing that? NOTE; Rolls Royce, Bentley, Jaguar, Ferrari, Maserati, de Lorean, etc. have NEVER been Olympic sponsors.

Maybe, just maybe, by 2024 Tesla might have developed cheaper models for everyday use?

Tesla's long term goal is to roll out an affordable line of vehicles. Already the Model 3 which will begin delivery next year received almost 400,000 pre-orders and are priced at just over 30K.

Eight years from now, I can easily see them handing over a fleet of vehicles, no problem.

Completely unrelated question. Why in the hell do my post go on here under two different users? The names are the same. I am using the same login credentials and everything (FB). What gives?

The USOC and its succeeding OCOGs tend to stick with the sponsors who have been with them before. GM got the Official Automobile Partner category in Salt Lake 2002. It's not just sedans that the OCOG will require. They will require a whole fleet of all-terrain, 4-wheel drive SUVs as part of the Torch Relay support caravan, and the Official Auto Partner usually supplies those, too. I don't think so.
