I was actually a latecomer when it came to getting my license (I must have been in my 30s) so don't have that big a collection to show off. When I ws growing up, the family had a Holden Monaro GTS (Holden is an Aussie car maker that became part of General Motors). The pic below is the same colour as ours (without the stripe). This car is so charming. It must be so cool to cross Australian Highways with it. It reminds me a lot of Chevrolet Opala, still, the Aussie one is more beautiful...

FYI Posted August 20, 2013 Report Posted August 20, 2013 Never got the "center instruments panel" thing... It's to show the passengers how fast (or slow) the car is moving??? Lol, no. If you look, on the Echo, the center console was facing the driver more than the passenger. On the Yaris, yeah, it looks more centered. I remember reading the reason for the center display like that was bcuz it was cheaper to have platform like that on a small car, bcuz it would remain the same no matter which side the steering wheel was on. Japaneses are weird sometimes... This white steering wheel is almost looking like ceramics! haha I think its just a light gray steering wheel against a dark gray dashboard.

I've always wanted an SUV, but I don't really want a big & clunky one. Something compact but very versatile. I used to wonder what an SUV was in American ads. We've always called them 4WD (four wheel drives). Lately, though, we're starting to adopt the American term more and more. Same as Winnebago - a decade ago, no-one here knew what they were. Now it's also becoming a popular classification. Only SUV/4WD I've ever driven was this huge diesel behemoth of a thing we hired when CAF was in Oz and we were driving around North Queensland. I can't remember the make, but I'll dig up a pic when I get home.

Unless you have a very large family, or use it to haul people for your business, or take it camping regularly, there's no other practical need to have an obnoxious vehicle like that. Not to mention the gas that those big things just suck up! It seems that nowadays some of the automakers here are making some of their SUV's smaller now. Like the Toyota Rav4, the Ford Escape & KIA Sportage have shrunk a little bit. of Although, the Honda CRV seems to have gotten an injection of steroids in it's lastest redesigned here in the U.S.

Can't say I haven't considered a 4WD - used to like the Rav4s. But, don't know if you have the same phenomenum in the States, all those Mums driving those bag tanks in narrow suburban streets to pick up their kids from school turned me off. This car is so charming. It must be so cool to cross Australian Highways with it. One on my bucket list still is to go to the US, rent a big Yank Tank, and "do" Route 66.

That looks like a Toyota Land Cruiser. Yeah, that's a big one, too. But still puny compared to this Big Pig! The Chevy Suburban - You can fit a whole fricken elementary school in there! Can't say I haven't considered a 4WD - used to like the Rav4s. Yes, we have that problem here, too. And that's another reason why I would want one. I absolutely HATE being behind one of those things, especially the Yukon, Suburban-type ones, in a car! I at least want those dumb b!tches to see when I flip them the Bird when they practically run you off the road cuz their running late from picking up/dropping off junior to/from school!

And let me tell you, those natives love their big chevy trucks and SUVs. When I worked at Wendy's you (besides the way natives speak) could always tell it was gonna be a big arse native order when you saw a chevy in the drive-thru. It is actually so bad here that insurance companies charge more for any GM vehicle because of the high incidents of native theft. Rols, I guess I am not the only one to not rush out and get the license. I just got my full license like 6 months ago. My one and only car is the '66 mustang I bought from my friend's Dad in April. Only issue is that its not exactly a winter car.

That reminds me of one old guy's truck we installed a new set of nerf bars to help his wife with some sort of arthritis. A crook tried to steal the nerfs thinking they are very expensive.
