StefanMUC
I think there is general support, but also outspoken criticism, organisations like FIFA or IOC are regarded cautiously at least, including Thomas Bach himself. However, Germans are generally winter sports fanatics - the crowds in Ruhpolding for the annual Biathlon World Cup are huge and in that sense, I don't see too much issues with the voting in that area and Königsee. Garmisch should be less critical now as the new plans foresee less construction causing less problems with land owners. Munich itself may depend on the turnout - they need around 105000 yes votes for a valid yes - provided there's less no votes of course. We've just had Bavarian and national elections back to back and people might be tired of voting again just on that issue. Would be a pity indeed, but I'm optimistic. A No result would probably deliver 2022 to Oslo on a silver plate :-)
cube
in munich there is also another Referendum scheduled for this day the one for the 3rd runway for the munich airport the one who are against a 3rd runway will go to the referendum for sure, and might vote against the WOG too so the real task for Munich 2022 will be to make sure the YES voters really go, because NO-Voters will go for sure . A No result would probably deliver 2022 to Oslo on a silver plate :-) For sure, IOC would not risk to vote Almaty, Krakow .... while PC isn´t over IOC will go less risk in 2022 thats why the timeframe would be so perfect for Munich 2022
StefanMUC
No, the runway referendum was last year and ended with a No vote.
markun
I agree, it is the perfect moment for Munich. Unless they trip at the hurdle of the referendum I think they have it in the bag. If the votes fails I think Oslo have it.
yoshi
Munich has this the 50th anniversary of 72 as well. I'd be very pleased for them, hopefully Germany can finally host an untainted Olympics.
August
I don't like about the idea of having cross-country skiing in Ruhpolding apart from other Nordic disciplines in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. I think Nordic disciplines belong together like in the World Ch'ships. It takes two hours to drive from one of those venues to the other. I think that's too much as those sports have many common fans. On the other hand, I can understand that it's good to have cross-country and biathlon on the same region, there are athletes that complete in both sports. So I think biathlon and the Nordic disciplines should be in the same area. Either in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a traditional ski jumping venue with also the Alpine disciplines. Or in Ruhpolding, a traditional biathlon venue close to the Königssee sliding venue. Both GAP and Ruhpoling have jumping hills, which is the most costly Nordic skiing venues. GAP has the more modern jumping hill.
zekekelso
China - at least as much as the United States - is used to getting it's way. There was outrage when Bejing wasn't selected for 2000. Don't expect China to put out a "placeholder" bid for 2022. Side note - Harbin is cold. I know the Winter games are supposed to be cold, but Harbin is really, really cold. Since China has to build all the infrastructure from scratch anyway, there's gotta be a better choice. olympiaki-agones
I'm glad Bavarian people and the ones from Austlandet are really concerned about wasting time, money and ruin their natural environment. Certainly they know they don't need the Olympics. If Munich is out, then I like the idea of Almaty to host the WOG. After all, a Turkic country would have won the (winter) Olympics. markun
I can't see Almaty getting it after PyeongChang and Sochi but I definitely see them as a future host. I wonder if Munich, regardless of referendum result will be defeated ultimately by their own people.
StefanMUC
Almaty is probably just there to test waters for 2026/2030 anyway.
baron-pierreIV
U heard it here first on 2 October 2013. Using BRROI - Baron's Revolving Restaurant-Olympic Index, Munich of the major contenders (Almaty, Barcelona, Lviv, Oslo, Stockholm) being the only one with a working Revolving Restaurant at this time, is my forecast to win 2022. StefanMUC
Apparently, a massive ad campaign for a Yes vote in the referendum has started yesterday, posters everywhere at least in my part of town. They also advertise a website, oja22.de, which however doesn't seem to work yet.

August
When is the referendum? I thought it was alongside the Bavarian election. Tomorrow. Does anybody have an idea about how close the referendum will be? Wikipedia says there needs to be a majority support from each locality. August
Next month It will be on Sunday 10 November .. 4 days before the Application Deadline. My bad, I just remembered it's on the 10th day. I was already wondering how there wasn't much about that on German newspapers' websites. yoshi
Is it close in polls?
StefanMUC
There are no published polls (yet). Online comments under newspaper articles are mostly critical or polemic, but that's with most topics I guess and not representative. Still, there's no denying of some opposition against the bid, I expect an outcome a bit similar to Oslo (mid-50s yes). ...for the city of Munich, I've not really followed reactions at the other referendum sites close enough recently. Kenadian
In Olympic votes, opposition is generally louder than support.
StefanMUC
We've had our first snow today, apparently even schools in Garmisch because it was too much at once at this time of the year (20 cm). Maybe Munich could stage the WOG in October 22, leaving February to the Qatar World Cup ;-))

cube
http://www.zdfsport.de/Aus-Fehlern-gelernt-30097170.html seems like this time it is much calmer in GAP, since the 2022 concept learned from the Mistakes they made in her 2018 bid and they hope for a better result in the poll as for the 2018 poll
