intoronto
Sweden wants Olympics again, "Perfect Match"STOCKHOLM. Swedish Olympic Committee (SOC) will not give up the idea to host a Winter Olympics. With the National Sports Confederation and the Disabled Association back support is proposed to Stockholm and Åre will jointly organize the Winter Games in 2022. - Stockholm and Olympics are sized to fit each other. It could be a perfect match, says SOK chairman Stefan Lindeberg di.se. The magazine has over 70 sports federations have been invited to a meeting in Stockholm on 24 June to discuss the proposal. It is estimated that a Swedish OS would cost 15-20 billion, which compares to the Sochi Olympics in 2014 declared cost around $ 300 billion. - We want to show that it is possible to make an OS in an urban environment at a reasonable cost in implementation, says Lindenberg. Source: I google translated it.
gromit
The distance between the two is almost 400miles so the chance of a successful bid is around zero
baron-pierreIV
Aha! Rival recon team has found another pair of seemingly plausible coordinates...but the western US team discredits rival's findings. Bozeman v. Stockholm. This will be interesting. How can we tap into direct link between US team "Z," Swedish team "Y" and maddahfucka-ship?? Edited June 5, 2013 by baron-pierreIV

Yea, but going into a huge tangent on Bozeman in a thread about Anchorage is totally acceptable. gromit, accept this forum for what it is. Besides, you're the one who is saying their chances are zero, so baron isn't the only one not taking this article all that seriously. Quaker2001
It was in response that someone took in the direction of Reno After which you and Lord David decided to have a discussion (largely amongst yourselves) on the merits of Bozeman, complete with a venue plan, pictures, info about local universities and the like. All of that was completely unprovoked and irrelevant to the conversation. At least with Reno, it could get brought up in the context of Anchorage that Anchorage beat out Reno (as well as Denver and SLC) to be the U.S. bidder for the `92 and `94 Olympics. So they fit in there. As opposed to you saying "I'd even take Bozeman over Reno," after which it took Lord David all of 10 minutes to come up with a venue plan for everyone. I think baron knows he's probably trolling right now, but for all the insults, at least he's not trying to have a discussion of an unrelated city in another city's thread for no real reason.

Pillan
One of Sweden's biggest newspapers reported today that SOC want to make a try. http://www.expressen.se/sport/har-ar-sveriges-stora-os-rival-2022-norge/ Åre will only host the Alpine events. The rest will Stockholm host. The positive thing is that Stockholm needs more homes to students. A olympic town( I don't know what's called) can be given to the students after the olympics. Then it will still be used long time after the olympics is finished.

Unfortunately Pillan, the IOC are on record as stating the events need to be held within 150km of each other and has told other contenders their bids will be rejected if they decided to go beyond this. Maybe you have right! But why SOC come up with this is idea if they don't think it will be successful? Shouldn't SOC know if there's a "rule" about events need to be held 150km of each other? If they decide to bid then I support them. SOC still need the gouverment's economic support. They haven't talk about their plans with the gouverment yet. It still a long way before a bid from Sweden will be true.

When Jaca bid in 2014, they tried to have Zaragoza in their proposal as the place to host the opening and closing ceremonies despite it being against the rules- hoping the IOC might change, and their bid was rejected I still think Ostersund could bid if the government provided financial help as some of the venues could be moved after the games

If the host city cant host them then is it a good host? Maybe IOC didn't want the events that far away because of that kind of reason? Maybe IOC thought Jaca could host it? Åre can't be moved as the ceremonies can. It's the mountains we are talking about. Östersund can be a good host but not as good as Stockholm. Stockholm is in a desperate need of new homes. We will welcome a olympic town. We already have a new fresh arena, Friends arena, to host opening and closing ceremonies and events. We also have Globen, Tele 2 arena ect to host events. Pillan
Also remember Stockholm hosted the equestrian events 1956 when Melbourne, Australia hosted the rest of the Olympics. That's far away that you can think about. If that was okay why not Åre/Stockholm then?
Quaker2001
Let's drop this issue now before this thread goes off topic too. Don't worry, I'm done. Probably only a matter of time before this one goes off topic too. It always does Also remember Stockholm hosted the equestrian events 1956 when Melbourne, Australia hosted the rest of the Olympics. That's far away that you can think about. If that was okay why not Åre/Stockholm then? The 2 have nothing to do with each other. What happened in 1956 is in no way precedent for Sweden (or any other nation) to say it's okay for a Winter Olympics to be spread out. Let alone that you're talking about 1 sport out of the 20+ held elsewhere in 1956 as opposed to a Winter Olympics where you're asking for 2 centers of action to be that far apart. Here's the thing.. is it possible the IOC might be interesting in a Stockholm/Are arrangement? Maybe. But if they have another bid with a city cluster and a mountain cluster that are much closer together, how enticing is Sweden going to be with what they're offering? Ikarus360
We all know by experience that bids which consist of two cities which are too far away from each other are most of the time doomed to fail *stares at Jaca and the Helsinki 2006 bid* , even though Stockholm is a very beautiful city. Sooooo, nope. I think they need to rethink and make a more realistic idea if they want to get the winter Olympics. Ostersund, even after losing so many times two decades ago, has far more chances than Are/Stockhom to get the winter games.
Lord David
I think Stockholm is a no go. If they won this it would make their 2004 Summer Olympics bid rather pointless, since they would have won a lesser event with the serious flaw of mountains far away. Oh and gromit was the one who brought up Bozeman in the Anchorage thread. Sorry for getting a little carried away and talking about Bozeman in such a thread, but don;t make out that I started it.
