Recommended Posts

OK, who's going to see FIRST, the Official documentary film about London 2012 and the first NON-Bud Greenspan official doc film? First screening in movie theatres in the US is May 30.

Prices aren't too bad $11.50 and $12.50 only. Hmmmm...maybe I'll go see it.

"First" has only just arrived in US cinemas? I've had the UK DVD version for months.

It's very enjoyable if you're in the right frame of mind.

Oh, the DVD might have been already available...but I'm not aware that it was promoted. And the fact that it will play on a Thursday nite shows the import or available booking slot that the major US theatre chain has allotted for it.

Is there considerable ceremonial footage? Because if it's just all about the 12 athletes, fuggedaboutit!

Uh-oh. Not a very positive review on the ONLY review of the flick on IMDB. And it's from a Brit no less.

Awwwk, having computer probs. Can't reprint the review! I wonder if the IOC has blocked my copy functions???

Well, maybe I'll go see it tonite...and then walk out after 45 minutes and ask for my $$ back.

- 12 athletes out of more than 10,000 was too many?

So, would 3,566 stories out of 10,000 still be OK???

I mean, don't they all strive to be "...the best they can be..." regardless of circumstances? How about one who throws in the towel a few months before the Games start, and only goes there to have a good time? I think that's a unique Olympic story worth telling! B)

Also, BTW, saw a shot from one of the upper reaches of the Swim Centre...and as I thought, that dark ceiling of Hadid really looms large like a whale's belly, over those seats and looked very oppressive.

How about... set a basic format and ask the national Olympic Committees to produce short video profiles of every athlete in their teams before the games!

For a more limited pan-Olympic project, a look at each of the sport categories should work.

Yes, I agree that would be fun, but if it is filmed, it probably won't happen more than once.

Remember, when the Aquatic Centre was designed, nearly a decade ago, there were not supposed to be any "upper reaches". The dark ceiling, as I understand it, is to reduce reflection on the water.

I was up in those reaches, and it wasn't too bad. It didn't feel dark at all, had pretty decend sight lines of the action, and wasn't too steep as to give one vertigo. Sydney, where we did te same thing, felt a bit more oppressive I thought.

Worst nosebleed seats I ever had was basketball at Atlanta in the Dome with USA versus Lithuania. Was like looking at ants on a sidewalk, and It felt like the edge of a steep precipice.

Oh not that the seating area was dark, but as I saw it on the large screen, that looming ceiling of the main permanent structure just seemed like some dark, ominous cloud hanging over the pool area and also BLOCKED off the sight of the gallery on the other side. That's the view I got from the film.
