Sir Alex Ferguson retires as Man Utd manager after 26 years

Recommended Posts

Sir Alex Ferguson will step down as Manchester United manager at the end of the season after 26 years in charge.

The Scot, 71, has won 38 trophies since taking over from Ron Atkinson on 6 November 1986, including this season's Premier League title.

His haul includes 13 titles, two Champions League crowns, five FA Cups and five League Cups.

"The decision to retire is one that I have thought a great deal about. It is the right time," Ferguson said.

"It was important to me to leave an organisation in the strongest possible shape and I believe I have done so.

Moyes I reckon

who's he? Never heard of this bloke before.

Not sure if you are being serious or not, but if you don't follow football (or should that be soccer?!) then I guess you would have no need to know. I wouldn't be able to name a single basketball baseball or NFL coach either so that's fair enough.

He's probably the most successful football manager in history and has been in charge of Manchester United for 26 years. Winning many titles and trophies. A real legend of the sport and he is retiring.

Yeah, like Eurovision, we don't get much of club football here in the US. I just sort of follow int'l soccer on the nat'l team level. Just sort of..

I think AVB outsmarting him at Old Trafford this season was the catalyst :D

Anyway, who's next, Moyes or Mourinho?

Looks like it's David Moyes:

I'm beginning to think there must be a clause in Man U's constitution that it can only be managed by a Scotsman! ;)

I think as a manager of a major World club you have to be arrogant and enact discipline and respect into your team and that is what Alex has done not only with Manchester United but also with Aberdeen before that who also had European success under his leadership.

It would be nice if he would manage the Scottish National side, perhaps he may actually get us to a major championships lol
