I'm intrigued because the presentation could be even bigger than that of Beijing's.

How? Beijing is the capital of 1.3 billion, and now the world's 2nd largest economy, with a history going back 900 years or so. How can a "gambling city" which is NOT even a century old match up to Beijing's resources or potential? I really fail to see your "vision: of this, Pyro. That would be like bringing Porno fest to the Vatican.

Isn't the show as much about the country as it is the city? I know that applies a little differently in the United States than it does elsewhere, but what can Las Vegas do that other U.S. cities couldn't? I don't think that's a big enough trump card for Las Vegas to play. Even still, there's no point in Las Vegas attracting an Olympics. It's not like they need it as an excuse for people to come there and spend their money. And considering that some of the venues are owned and operated by the casinos, I don't know how happily they'll take to handing over their arenas to the IOC for 2 months that are largely out of their control.

Pretty sure some folks from the Atlanta `96 committee might argue that explosions are a bad thing, not a good thing. Just sayin'

I obviously mean happy explosions. Like for instance, when the medalists are accepting their medals, they will all be positioned on the podium already, behind blast walls. "AND NOW, INTRODUCING YOUR BRONZE MEDALISTS, TEAM UNITED KINGDOM" and then BOOM the wall blows FORWARD, away from the podium, revealing the Bronze medalists. "AND NOW, INTRODUCING YOUR SILVER MEDALISTS, TEAM CHINA" BOOOOM another wall blows away. "AND NOW, INTRODUCING YOUR GOLD MEDALISTS, TEAM USA!!!" BOOOM BOOOM BOOM BOOM BOOOOOOOM!!! Like 20 different explosions around the podium happen, blowing away another wall, revealing, you guessed it, the GOLD FUCKING MEDALISTS.

I figured. Couldn't resist though.

And that's what Las Vegas' sell would be? That sounds ridiculously undignified. That's the kind of show I'd expect at some cheesy monster truck rally.. " SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY!!!"

Trust me, there is nothing more dignified than being introduced by a booming announcer and some low-level pyrotechnics.

Once or twice, maybe. Do it over and over again for 300 medal ceremonies and it's going to get tired really quickly. Pretty sure that's not what the IOC is looking for.

I'll take ridiculously undignified over tired and pompus anyday.

IMO, the USOC wants a Summer Games by 2032, their best option might be to find one city that is willing to stick with the process if it doesn't win in 2024 or 2028. .

One of the US's big weakness from a host city standpoint is our system of weak government. There is no way a US city can be "willing to stick with the process."

Of all the cities invited, I think the following all have varying degrees of appeal to compete internationally:

Los Angeles

San Francisco

Washington D.C.

Miami

Atlanta

Chicago

Boston

Detroit

St. Louis

Las Vegas

New York

Philadelphia

Dallas

Houston

Seattle

Overall - I'd like to see Chicago step up again.

I have a high interest in Philadelphia and NYC also.

Yes, but only Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and (maybe) DC have legit shots at hosting the Summer Olympics. And all on that list except Las Vegas (and maybe St. Louis) have a better shot at becoming the host cities for USA FIFA 2026.

Also, none of the cities probably won't keep the stadium as is to accommodate an IAAF World Championships in Track and Field after the games are over with, which will disappoint USA Track and Field, who no doubt wants to host a World Championships.

What about Philadelphia? What are Americans thoughts on this? I think it would have a great deal of international appeal.

You people are worried about bringing the Olympics to Philadelphia? You should look up the history of East London, site of the 2012 Games. I think the idea of staging an Olympics to compliment urban renewal is strong - and if the US isn't' going to go with the likes of LA or NY - somewhere like Philly (which is an historic, major East Coast American city - ticks boxes) with huge potential for urban and social renewal would be the place to go. Detroit is, perhaps, too far gone.

Obviously I'm biased here, but I would love to see Philadelphia throw their hat into the ring. To Pyro's point.. Philadelphia is not as dangerous as it was once perceived for be. I lived there for the better part of 4 years, most of which was spent only a few blocks from the ghettos of West Philadelphia. But that's what urban renewal is about. I don't know how they could sell an Olympics to the city, but very similar to Boston, it's a city rich in American history, they have plenty of sports tradition (not all of it positive.. yes, this is the city that once booed Santa Claus), and there are lots of colleges and universities in town that might want to be a part of this. Easier said than done of course, but Philadelphia is far from a bad option.. that is, if they're interested.

ain't no olympics coming to the usa for the next 30-40 years!one, the usa has hosted too many time!two, because of george w. bush our relationships with the rest of the world very are poor and tacky!the usa relies on good relationships with the rest of the world to get them ioc votes!third, the ioc has never gotten over the 2002 salt lake city scandal in which mitt romney set up!if cities like new york and chicago can't get no bid no usa city except san francisco will never get a bid !speaking of my chicago.how can chicago host and olympics and my city can't pay their teachers and public employees!chicago has pulled out of 2024 bid race knowing with these teen murders going on that no world event will never come to my city!the people in chicago like the whites and half of latinos in my city are too stubborn to support and host an olympics, instead chicago especially the black people would rather kill, drink beer, and smoke refers! i'm black and calling the chicago blacks ignorant!i should have backed the bid for rio instead of my chicago knowing now that my city doesn't care about you.in chicago it's all about you help me and i help you.that spells corruption.chicago's job hiring pratices are based on who you know like relatives and friends!
