Durban Sandshark Posted March 3, 2015 Report Share Posted March 3, 2015 Russia's Channel One/Perviy Kanal presents a special retrospective program about all of Russia's (or the Russian Federation's, going by official IOC parlance) golden moments and medalists as hosts in Sochi from Viktor Ahn (Ahn Hyun-Soo) to Victor Wild to the Russian figure skating team to Alexander Tretiakov to the four-man bobsled to Alexander Legkov to the men's 5000m relay biathlon team, among others in Russia's Sochi 2014 medalists: Oh yes, there was a Sochi 2014 one-year anniversary celebration at the Bolshoi Ice Dome with Channel One there to broadcast it. Dmitry Guberniev was the MC, Lyubov (Liza Temnikova) came back reprising her role, Vladimir Putin came to say a few words as well as some the Russian medalists from Sochi returned to celebrate. Not even its Commonwealth Games coverage did either. Don't think there's a separate Sport Logies like there are with the Emmys. I think it is because, though very important sports worldwide and Australia has made tremendous progress in the Winter Olympics, it's still seen in the mainstream Australia as somewhat marginal. There is a Logie for sports coverage - this year (just last Sunday) it was won by SBS for its FIFA WC 2014 coverage. I don't think the Winter Oly's got nominated, but I do seem to recall the Commonwealth Games coverage was. The other nominees were the usual football grand finals and Melbourne Cup telecasts. The WOGs might be far from mainstream here, but they still rated decently. Guess it's the big event, rather than the sports themselves, that gets the viewers. Same could be said for the FIFA WC - soccer is shaded by Rugby and Aussie Rules for the spotlight here, but a WC will draw in the viewers for the big occasion. I don't think the Winter Oly's got nominated, but I do seem to recall the Commonwealth Games coverage was. The other nominees were the usual football grand finals and Melbourne Cup telecasts. It became that in January, 1, 2010 after being Sport from June 23, 2003 resulting from a broadening format. Rossiya 2, you may recall, was VTGRK's Olympic channel during Sochi 2014 for much of the Olympic days starring the likes of Dmitry Guberniev running the show covering the biathlon and acting as studio anchor. It's now replaced under its frequency by Match TV, also a public sports TV channel like Rossiya 2 was. It came into existence under Vladimir Putin's order on the basis of the sports redaction of Gazprom-Media Holding and technical equipment ANO Sports Broadcasting (the Panorama brand) with Tina Kandelaki as the channel's general producer.
