Brand spanking new Claro Sports won a bronze for its Sochi 2014 Olympic promo featuring several members of the 2014 Latin American Sochi Winter Olympians (Team Latam) in snowboarding and skiing in Best On-Air Promo, even when it turned out Latin America hadn't yet won a Winter Olympic medal. This post is largely devoted to VGTRK's Dmitry Guberniev, who was arguably the busiest media man in all of Sochi covering not just the biathlon but live co-hosting the ceremonies on the Russia channels, anchoring the coverage, and being its sports editor.

Get to know a little bit more about it him and how he helped raised biathlon's profile in Russia with his excitable, loud, motormouth style...something that polarizes Russians and his seemingly overexposure:

http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052702303874504579373180535620704

ANO Sports Panorama was getting ready for Sochi and for Kazan Universiade 2013 in this May 2013 interview and those Russian Olympic TV rights holders got first dibs at the biathlon mixed zone ahead of NBC while producing the national feed that saw the likes of Stepsova at the shooting range in that sport, the Guberniev would call for at his venue post, instead of using the Norwegian-produced feed at times. Got some experience from an old hand from Moscow 1980 in the training in Moscow. And getting ready for the innovations. Yeah, focused on the Russian athlets:

How some of Russia's top sports journalists enjoyed and covered Sochi 2014 headed by Dmitry Guberniev:

Russia's Channel One/Perviy Kanal presents a special retrospective program about all of Russia's (or the Russian Federation's, going by official IOC parlance) golden moments and medalists as hosts in Sochi from Viktor Ahn (Ahn Hyun-Soo) to Victor Wild to the Russian figure skating team to Alexander Tretiakov to the four-man bobsled to Alexander Legkov to the men's 5000m relay biathlon team, among others in Russia's Sochi 2014 medalists:

Oh yes, there was a Sochi 2014 one-year anniversary celebration at the Bolshoi Ice Dome with Channel One there to broadcast it. Dmitry Guberniev was the MC, Lyubov (Liza Temnikova) came back reprising her role, Vladimir Putin came to say a few words as well as some the Russian medalists from Sochi returned to celebrate. With singing, dancing, and music of course:

Jeep Australia was the broadcast sponsor for Ten's Sochi 2014 coverage in this sponsor boards from the network

i also checked to see if Ten's Sochi 2014 coverage managed to earn any nominations for the TV Week Logie Awards. It didn't. Not even its Commonwealth Games coverage did either. Don't think there's a separate Sport Logies like there are with the Emmys. I think it is because, though very important sports worldwide and Australia has made tremendous progress in the Winter Olympics, it's still seen in the mainstream Australia as somewhat marginal.

Ten reported a net A$168 million loss but with a 41% improvement for last year (2013-14) despite revenue reduced to A$601.7 million. Third straight year in a loss with one-off costs this year towards those two multisport events:

There is a Logie for sports coverage - this year (just last Sunday) it was won by SBS for its FIFA WC 2014 coverage. I don't think the Winter Oly's got nominated, but I do seem to recall the Commonwealth Games coverage was. The other nominees were the usual football grand finals and Melbourne Cup telecasts.

The WOGs might be far from mainstream here, but they still rated decently. Guess it's the big event, rather than the sports themselves, that gets the viewers. Same could be said for the FIFA WC - soccer is shaded by Rugby and Aussie Rules for the spotlight here, but a WC will draw in the viewers for the big occasion.

VGTRK's Rossiya 2, the principal sports channel from that Russian state media empire, ceased operations on November 1. It became that in January, 1, 2010 after being Sport from June 23, 2003 resulting from a broadening format. Rossiya 2, you may recall, was VTGRK's Olympic channel during Sochi 2014 for much of the Olympic days starring the likes of Dmitry Guberniev running the show covering the biathlon and acting as studio anchor. It's now replaced under its frequency by Match TV, also a public sports TV channel like Rossiya 2 was. It came into existence under Vladimir Putin's order on the basis of the sports redaction of Gazprom-Media Holding and technical equipment ANO Sports Broadcasting (the Panorama brand) with Tina Kandelaki as the channel's general producer. Surely it will cover its share of Russian media's Rio 2016 programming
