baron-pierreIV Posted June 17, 2013 Report Share Posted June 17, 2013 Just announced on the Miss USA pageant: the 2013 Miss Universe pageant will be staged at the Crocus City Hall (an auditorium actually) in Moscow on November 9, 2013. A beauty pageant in Moscow in NOVEMBER??? It means 2 things, obviously: 1. Miss Russia, even if she looks like a dog, will be among the Top 5 finalists; and 2. Because the pageant is being carried on NBC, it will be a build-up to the Sochi coverage. I imagine the swimsuit footage might even be shot at some hotel in Sochi and then just spliced into the live proceedings in Moscow. So watch on Nov 9 to see some previews of Sochi. Baron: the Miss World pageant used to be held between oct-dec. the Atlanta edition of Miss World in 1991 was held December 28th. but Miss World this year will be in September. Durban Sandshark Posted June 19, 2013 Report Share Posted June 19, 2013 Hopefully SABC will have learned its lesson from the last Winter Olympics in Vancouver and allow a Supersport sublicense for much more comprehensive Winter Olympics in Sochi and not rely on daily highlights and the ceremonies across Sub-Saharan Africa. We know Africa lacks a lot of snow and ice and mountainous ranges, but expanding the Winter Olympics audience there with comprehensive coverage like it did for Torino should be a priority. Never know, we could finally see an African medalist in the WO in a generation. Are there any nods to the 2014 Winter Olympics from Quebecor's TVA Sports yet like promos? Network Ten will need a lot of online servers to provide this amount of coverage. Expect to see more frequent promos at the end of this year. This would a tremendous boon for its at times maligned Ten Sport online live streaming and boost its quality. It's possible that the online channel would possess, like with the Canadian Olympic Broadcast Media did online for its multiple London streaming channels, the IOC world English-language feed--and use a few of its own commentators whenever an Aussie Winter Olympian is heavily featured in the sport. Presumably, the network has song rights thrown in for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro. More interesting is the fact that RTE News Now has the Irish TV broadcast rights for Sochi as the nation comes out of the Winter Olympic Dark Ages in broadcasting, so to speak--I mean, Africa has been getting Winter Olympic broadcasting since Nagano, if not for just South Africa in Lillehammer. Was News Now not intended to air original or new programming? Could this be a future sign for allowing sports to be shown on it? Might have been a reality much earlier if that proposed RTE Plus actually aired with more sports, which apparently got passed over in favor for RTE News Now and planned to show more original content and programming and would satisfy the Broadcast Authority of Ireland's criteria. Julie Strømsvåg, Carsten Skjelbreid, Davy Wathne, Annemarta Giske and Arill Riise will be Norway's TV 2's live Sochi Winter Olympic studio hosts. Just announced hours ago today. I remember a medal ceremony at Beijing where an athlete from Azerbaijan won gold in one of the judo classes and they let the President of Azerbaijan participate by presenting the bouquets. Dang IOC and IF poobahs think they are the stars of the medal presentations. I suspect that subtle (and probably far-away) consequences of exceptions like the above would inevitably have led to a rigorous enforcement of the ban in London. I've noticed for a while, for example, that it's often one of Oz's members, Coates or Gosper, who end up presenting gold medals to Aussies who win at swimming. I suspect they probably nominate the events they want to do presentations for, and likely put their hands up for the ones where their nations are the favourite, but does anybody know for sure? At some spot in the official IOC hotel where they pick up their tix to a particular event, they must also inform some Awards Team scheduler/coordinator that they intend to be at venue X and together with an IF official, want to hand out the hardware to the winners.
