From 2014 i will no longer be driving for Ferrari. I would like to thank the team for all the victories and incredible moments experienced together. Thank you also to my wife and all of my family, to my fans and all my Sponsors. From each one of you I have always received a great support! Right now I want to push as hard as possible with Ferrari for the remaining 7 races. For next year, I want to find a team that can give me a competitive car to win many more races and challenge for the Championship which remains my greatest objective! Thank you all. Felipe

Kimi Raikkonen signs two-year deal to partner Fernando Alonso at Ferrari following Felipe Massa departure

Raikkonen, 33, won the world title with Ferrari in 2007 but left the team just two years later for a new challenge in rallying.

He has impressed since returning to F1 at the start of 2012 with Lotus and has now agreed a return to Maranello on a two-year deal.

The move pairs the Finn with two-time world champion Fernando Alonso in what will arguably be the strongest driver line-up in the sport.

"Scuderia Ferrari announces that it has reached an agreement with Kimi Raikkonen," read a statement on ferrari.com. "The Finn will join alongside Fernando Alonso in the driver line-up for the next two seasons."

Raikkonen contested 52 grands prix for Ferrari between 2007 and 2009, winning on nine occasions. Six of those victories came in his first season as he beat McLaren duo Alonso and Lewis Hamilton to the world title by a single point.

IOC upgrades FIA to full recognition status

Following a two year period of provisional recognition by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the FIA’s status has been upgraded to full recognition in accordance with the sporting and governance standards of the Olympic Charter.

Mon 16.09.13, 6:06PM

The decision was taken by a meeting of the IOC Executive Board in Buenos Aires on 7-10 September 2013.

The IOC decision confirms that the statutes, practice and activities of the FIA are in full conformity with the Olympic Charter, including the adoption and implementation of the World Anti-Doping Code. The announcement is a final step in the integration of the FIA into the international sports community, a process which was initiated by FIA President Jean Todt following a meeting with the IOC President Jacques Rogge in 2010. The FIA has since been admitted to SportAccord[1], ARSIF[2], and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

FIA President Jean Todt said: “The IOC’s full recognition of the FIA’s leading role in the promotion and governance of motorsport is acknowledgement of the important reforms we have undertaken over recent years to meet the best international sporting, governance and ethical standards.”

He continued, “This is important news for the 130 National Sporting Authorities the FIA represents. Through their membership of the FIA, they now have the backing of the IOC to engage fully in the work carried out by their local Olympic committee. This will raise the visibility and status of motorsport in their country, and should help inspire more people to get involved.”

Webber slapped with ten-place grid penalty after thumbing ride back to pits with Alonso

Mark Webber has been hit with a ten-place grid penalty after he was reprimanded for hitching a lift back to the pits with Fernando Alonso following the Singapore Grand Prix.

It is the third time the Australian has been reprimanded this season meaning he will serve a ten-place grid drop at the next race in Korea.

The Red Bull driver retired on the final lap of Sunday's race which was won by team-mate Sebastian Vettel.

Thanks for the ride, Fernando: But Mark Webber and Alonso were reprimanded for the incident

On-board footage from Alonso's car appeared to prove the reprimand was justified after Lewis Hamilton was forced to take avoiding action of the slowing Spaniard.

The race stewards deemed that Webber 'entered the track without the marshal’s permission between the commencement of the formation lap and the time when the last car enters parc ferme.'

Webber's other reprimands this season came in Bahrain for an altercation with Nico Rosberg and ignoring yellow flags in Canada.

Alonso, who finished second behind Vettel, was also reprimanded for driving in a manner which the race stewards deemed 'potentially dangerous to other drivers or any other person'.

World Motor Sport Council
FRI 27.09.13

A meeting of the FIA World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) took place today (27 September) in Dubrovnik, Croatia. The FIA President, Jean Todt, opened the meeting by thanking Matko Bolanca, President of the Croatian Car & Karting Federation (CCKF), and Zrinko Gregurek, Secretary General of the CCKF and WMSC member, for their hospitality and for hosting the FIA family.

The following decisions were taken by the World Motor Sport Council:

FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

As confirmed earlier today by the FIA and the Formula 1 Group, the framework for the implementation of the 2013 Concorde Agreement has now come into force. This agreement provides the FIA with significantly improved financial means to pursue its regulatory missions and to reflect the enhanced role undertaken by the FIA in motor sport. The parties have agreed a strong and stable sporting governance framework which includes the Formula 1 Group, the FIA and the participating teams. The agreement lays down solid foundations for the further development of the FIA Formula One World Championship.

The members of the WMSC congratulated the FIA President for the successful and favourable conclusion to the negotiations. The members also accepted his proposal to create a new task force, after the FIA Presidential Election, charged with proposing the allocation of the additional financial resources for the FIA and its membership.

One of the noteworthy aspects of the new 2013 Concorde Agreement is the new tender procedure for appointing single suppliers in the tyre and fuel categories, for the FIA F1 World Championship.

In this new process, the FIA will be confirmed as the body in charge of conducting the tender process. The Commercial Rights Holder will be entitled to run the commercial negotiations with potential suppliers, with a view to the selected single supplier being officially appointed by the WMSC.

In order to cover the transition period and considering the contracts already settled by FOM and the Teams with Pirelli, the WMSC today confirmed that Pirelli may continue to supply tyres to competitors in the FIA F1 World Championship, subject to the requisite technical and safety standards of the FIA being met.

The 2014 FIA Formula One World Championship calendar is confirmed as follows:

The IOC also recognises sports with subjective points scoring systems (artistic/dance sports) and sports where peak fitness is hardly a prerequisite (target/shooting sports). I suppose if you're a total purist you'd only want sports which are athletic, with objective scoring, and which have no mechanical aid. But there's so many sports which don't fulfil all three already recognised by the IOC that you can't go all purist now.

Motor racing, like many sports already recognised by the IOC, fulfils two of those three criteria.

Bianchi to stay with Marussia in 2014

(Reuters) - Ferrari-backed French driver Jules Bianchi will remain with Marussia next season, theRussian-licensed Formula One team said on Thursday.

The highly-regarded 23-year-old, who is a member of the Ferrari driver academy, is currently in his rookie season with a best result of 13th in Malaysia.

The British-based team will swap Cosworth engines for Ferrari powerlb_icon1.png units next year, when the rules go through major changes and a new turbocharged V6 is introduced, but principal John Booth said the deals were not linked.
"There is a link of course, because Jules is a Ferrari driver, but there's no link in the deal whatsoever," he told Reuters at the Korean Grand Prix. "It's a nice fit."

Marussia are currently 10th of the 11 teams in the constructors' standings despite having so far failed to score a point since their debut in 2010 as Virgin Racing.

The Frenchman secured the Marussia drive this year at the last minute after losing out toGermany's Adrian Sutil for a place at Force India.

With that door closed to him, another opened when Marussia terminated the contract of Brazilian Luiz Razia when his financial backing failed to materialise.

"Jules joined us at very short notice at the end of pre-season testing, with only two days of running under his belt," said Booth in announcing the contract extension.

"He rose to the challenge of his debut season exceptionally well and since that time has clearly demonstrated his ability and potential."

CHILTON IN TALKS

Britain's Max Chilton is currently Bianchi's team mate and Booth said Marussia were talking with him about an extension.

"I have always made it plain I'd love to run the same drivers next year," he said. "So we've got half the job done."

Booth said the team had announced Bianchi's deal without waiting for the full line-up because such news inevitably leaked out anyway.

"There's nothing to be read into Max's situation at all," added the principal.

Sauber sign up to use Ferrari engines in 2014

Sauber will continue with Ferrari engines next season into Formula 1's new turbo era.

The Swiss team have used Ferrari engines for the last four years - and did so from 1997 to 2005 before they were taken over by BMW, which quit F1 in 2008.

Lotus are the only team yet to confirm its 2014 engine partner, although they are expected to stick with Renault.

F1 is switching to 1.6-litre V6 turbos with extensive energy recovery.

The move from the current 2.4-litre V8 naturally aspirated engines is to keep the sport aligned with developments in road cars, where smaller capacity engines with greater fuel efficiency are becoming the norm.

Sauber's "multi-year" deal includes the entire powertrain of energy recovery system (Ers) and gearbox. They will be the third team to use Ferrari engines, alongside the works outfit and Marussia.

Mercedes engines will be used by the German company's factory team as well as McLaren, Force India and Williams.

World champions Red Bull will use Renault, along with junior team Toro Rosso, Caterham and almost certainly Lotus.

McLaren will switch to Honda engines in 2015 in a deal that means no other team can work with the Japanese company until 2016.

Er......is this a German thing?

Sebastian Vettel brings boos on himself with arrogant comments about my balls, says Nico Rosberg

Nico Rosberg says Sebastian Vettel brings boos on himself with his arrogant behaviour after the Formula One world champion claimed his Red Bull team works hard while other drivers are "hanging their balls in the pool".

Vettel looks certain to win a fourth successive driver's championship after building up a 60-point lead over nearest rival Fernando Alonso.

The German has won seven of the 13 races this season, but has been on the receiving end of booing from spectators on the winners' podium.

Responding to the negative reaction, Vettel said: "The car’s fantastic and it doesn’t happen by accident.

"Whilst there’s a lot of people hanging their balls in the pool on Fridays, we’re still working very hard and pushing very hard so that we have a strong race."

Vettel later claimed his comments were not at attack on rival drivers or teams, but Rosberg said: "Sebastian brings the boos on himself. He talks about my balls that I hang in the pool and then the boos come.

"My guys are working hard day and night. He couldn’t know if his boys work harder. We give it full throttle. His comments are aloof and were almost his undoing qualifying [in Singapore].

"I almost stole pole from him and if I had I would have laughed. Sebastian should think less about my balls and more about himself. With comments like that he is running the risk of losing the respect of his fellow drivers."

McLaren driver Button added: "It is incorrect and wrong of [Vettel] to say that. We are obviously not doing a good enough job to beat Red Bull and no one is at the moment but that doesn’t mean we are not working hard. Every team is working as hard as Red Bull."

Jules Bianchi of Marussia and Caterham's Charles Pic face 10-place grid penalties at next weekend's Japanese Grand Prix after being reprimanded following Sunday's race in Korea.

The French duo automatically get the grid penalty for accruing three reprimands this season.

Also reprimanded by stewards after an incident-packed race at Yeongam were Pic's team-mate Giedo van der Garde and Bianchi's stablemate Max Chilton.

Bianchi and Pic received their reprimands for failing to respond to yellow flags, whilst van der Garde and Chilton were punished for lapping too quickly during the safety-car period.

Stewards opted to take no further action against McLaren's Sergio Perez and Force India's Adrian Sutil, who were also the subject of post-race investigations.

Interlagos gets new deal until 2020

The Brazilian Grand Prix will continue to be held at Interlagos until 2020 after the circuit signed a new contract.

12932.jpg

The old contract for the race was due to expire in 2014, but Bernie Ecclestone has agreed a new deal with Sao Paulo mayor Fernando Haddad that will ensure Interlagos remains on the Formula One calendar for the next seven seasons.

A key condition of the new agreement is the construction of a new pit and paddock complex at the circuit. The new development will be located on the straight between turns 3 and 4, with construction due to begin next year and be completed in time for the 2015 race.

Interlagos first hosted a non-championship grand prix in 1972 and then a championship race the year after. It has been the venue of the Brazilian Grand Prix on 30 occasions in total.
