By the way, now that the Winter games are over ..where do you guys talk about the off season? Like World Championships, etc. Can someone link me the forum? By the way, now that the Winter games are over ..where do you guys talk about the off season? Like World Championships, etc. Can someone link me the forum? No one really talks about sports here. Only bidding for the Olympics. This is the better forum for what you're looking for: http://totallympics.com/forum.php
intoronto
Canada -3 had to subs on their team for the third run and this means Canada's final team size was 222 athletes.
SkiFreak
are those strange observation towers to the left off the top lift from the olympics? Not sure. I've only been to the hill twice since I moved here, and that was two years ago. There is/was a T-bar lift at the top of the chair that was only used by ski patrollers for avalanche control. Fortress Mountain just to the south of Nakiska is being redeveloped and is slated to open for the 2015/16 ski season with some lifts possibly reopening next winter (right now they just have cat skiing). It could also serve as a venue, maybe for the freestyle/x-games sports.

jawnbc
Excellent analysis! I was doing a similar number crunch this morning! Canada made the podium in 9/15 sports and had top 5s in 3 others. Russia did in 10; the US also in 9. The only no hopers for Canada were related to jumping, including combined. Luge was gutting though, especially the relay. Given the number of new disciplines (and how well Canada did in them), we've lost some momentum from 2010. No surprise there. Well, might as well go sport by sport: Alpine Skiing: It wasn't Guay and it wasn't Gagnon, but finally Canada has another medal in Alpine after a ridiculous amount of close calls. Women's tech team is promising. Biathlon: no medals, but still some great performances. Very unlucky in the men's pursuit, too. I'm pretty confident someone will step in to fill J.P.'s shoes. Bobsleigh: full marks to Humphries for driving out of her mind, but very disappointing showing by the men's team. A medal was always going to be tough but we weren't even close. Still, Spring, Kripps and Humphries should still be there in four years. Cross-country skiing: disastrous. Not so much that they didn't win any medals, that was always going to be tough, but the entire team just didn't show up. There will be a lot of turnover, and considering how much the women's team has suffered from that I am not too optimistic for the future. Harvey and Valjas are still young and they will probably have to carry the team over the next four years. Curling: full marks, an embarrassing amount of talented teams are waiting in the wings. Figure Skating: Chan let a chance for gold get away from him, but apart from that the team did about as well as it could. Always a sport with a lot of turnover so its really hard to predict how strong the team will be in four years. Freestyle Skiing: Full marks. Two teenagers on the women's side won gold medals and there is a lot of young talent beyond that. Hockey: Full marks once again. Pyeongchang will be tough on the men's side if the NHL doesn't go. Luge: Best performance ever for Canada, but three fourth places are tough to take. If the entire team carries on its hard to imagine there won't be medals in Korea. Nordic Combined: nope. Short Track: Very disappointing performance, and the entire team on the men's side (apart from Charle Cournoyer) could very well retire before the next Olympics. Still, there is a lot of talent waiting in the wings, its just that people of the calibre of Charles Hamelin are darn hard to find. At the end of the day the disappointing medal haul had more to do with bad luck than with lack of talent, though. Skeleton: worse performance ever for Canada on both the men's and women's side. Program needs to rebuild. Ski Jumping: lots of improvements for Canada since 2010 on the men's side and fairly decent results from the women. The team has the potential to stay competitive on the women's side if the proper investments are made. Snowboarding: fairly disappointing, especially in men's slopestyle. Maltais' silver is nice. Maltais, Ricker and Calve will probably all retire and those will be big shoes to fill. Hard to predict who will be competitive in slopestyle in four years. Speed skating: the team has been a disaster all year, so wining two medals is a nice surprise. The men's side has a lot of promising sprinters but I'm not quite as confident for the women. Definitively some rebuilding to be done. Overall good Olympics for Canada, could have gone a bit better. Will be tough to match in Pyeongchang. Citius Altius Fortius
Just saw a lot of athletes from the Canadian Olympic team at Munich airport... But nobody had a medal around his/her neck - otherwise I would have asked for a picture

JLishere
Well, some Canadian athletes got better luck after the Olympics. In snowboard slopestyle: Mark McMorris (bronze in Sochi) won gold at the US Open. Maxence Parrot (didn't medal) won bronze. In snowboard cross: Dominique Maltais (silver in Sochi) won gold at the World Cup. Chris Robanske (didn't medal) won bronze. Short track speed skating World Cup is also happening this weekend; the Canadians should hopefully stop falling left and right.
JLishere
Also on the podium this month, Justine Dufour-Lapointe won gold at the moguls World Cup. Her older sister, Maxime Dufour-Lapointe (who didn't medal in Sochi), won bronze. Maxime proves she had what it takes to get on the podium, and a sweep was a real possibility in Sochi. Marc-Antoine Gagnon (fourth in Sochi), won silver in the men's moguls World Cup. Mikael Kingsbury (silver), won the bronze this time. Alex Bilodeau finished 4th at the World Cup. A couple days later in Japan, Mikael Kingsbury won gold in dual moguls. A newcomer from Montreal, Pascal Olivier Gagne, won bronze.
JLishere
Momentum continues today : Charles Hamelin just won the gold in 1500m short track (World Cup in Montreal). He's aiming for 2 other medals this weekend (500m, 1000m and possibly team relay). Denny Morrison also won gold at the 1000m event (speed skating World Cup in Heerenveen, Netherlands). He's now 2nd overall in World Cup rankings. Also in the Netherlands, Ivanie Blondin of Ottawa won bronze in the women's mass start event.
