Another day another medal. Awesome effort from the 7s girls in beating Great Birtiain. Looked better than the game against USA in the Quarter Finals.

Also stoked with the equestrian team who are sitting in team silver and Mark Todd in 4th!

That 199 really does bug me.

Yup, a very pleasing Games with our best medal haul every beating Seoul and London by a few. Yep, without a doubt there were some disappointments, but I guess if we are happy to take the shooting

For those who might have missed it I was interviewed on Stuff about my PhD topic which is about New Zealand and the Olympic Movement and National Identity.  http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/olympics/

Second Silver medal at Rio for NZ.

Woman's Sevens go down to Australia 24-17

Portia Woodman inconsolable...Her yellow card a critical moment in the match. Professional foul rightfully carded.

Referees were terrible but it went both ways. (IRB will be raising eyebrows at why the best ref was not used)

And proving all teams need to remain sharp at all times...ask Great Britain, blasted out of the bronze final with another ill disciplined game.

Gold - Australia

Silver - New Zealand

Bronze - Canada

A second silver medal for new zealand! Australia were much deserved winners on the night. Some of the reffing was terrible and Australia should not have been awarded their first try. But its still a silver medal for the Kiwis.

Something to be proud of!

Fingers crossed. What a magical story it would be if we can beat the Aussies and win the 3 day event gold #thirdtimelucky

I still wouldn't rule Todd out for an individual medal as well.

It will be interesting to see how the horses pull up over night. Lets hope they pass their veterinary inspection! I remember we had horses withdrawn in Sydney when we were sitting in the Bronze Medal position.

I still cant believe how decisive the cross country was. It was good to see that the dressage wasnt the critical factor and then it became a possession after that as was in previous Olympics.

Ohh yeah...And wow is Sir Mark Todd a stable pair of hands!(excuse the pun). Very cool under pressure and will be needed for the show jumping.

As for the Cross Country... Didn't seem all that difficult a course compared to London...but tighter time penalties to balance it out?

The time penalties were tighter than London, but there were a couple of really technical jumps. All the athletes were talking about jump number 6!

I'd argue that half the athletes didn't say a word about jump number 6 :)

Football Ferns captain Abby Erceg, has had her Red Card overturned on appeal. NZ Football promptly filed a protest after what they believe was an incorrect decision by the ref. The video footage clearly showed Erceg's mark provoking her.

The overturn allows Abby to play against France.

:(

Double loss for the Doubles Sculls men and women. A shock for the women who are current world champions.

But those who are expected to get through are through into semis.

Bond and Murray through t Gold final.

Am gutted for the equestrian team who here leading with one round of team riders to go. Poor old Todd dropped four rails and New Zealand finish fourth. Heart breaking stuff. Sport can be so cruel sometimes!

:( Not the best days...

Commiserations to Sir Mark Todd as the pressure for a medal proved too much. Too many penalties in the final round of show jumping.

Bond and Murray through to Gold final.

Same.

Had to take a moment away out of view.

And now the Sevens are fudging it!

Holy f**k the kiwis just had their ass handed to them... by Japan of all countries!!!

I'm not surprised at all throughout the whole game they looked so sluggish and slow. Did they forget that this game was built around speed and not strength? Japan were fast little buggers today.

A bit of redemption for Rugby Sevens...Beating Kenya 27-5.

And realizing they don't need Sonny Bill...although still not a settled side.

That's NZs Sevens tournament all but over...

GB 21 - NZ 19

However NZ make it into Quarters as points aggregate and Fiji wining in their pool.

And take on Fiji. :(

UPDATE: QUARTER FINAL

....Tough match

Fiji starting to crank up in the second half...

Fiji wins...12 - 7

Rounding out a miserable Rugby campaign by the Men.

Predicted no medals from them but wasn't expecting them to fall so soon.

Plate finals for them...

Bitterly disappointed with the result. The team never really got their campaign going at all.

Very disappointing but I do think its awesome to see sevens in the Olympics and its also great to see that the global game is growing and is much more competitive.

It will be great to see Fiji get up for the gold and win their countries first Olympic medal.

Overall this Olympiad has been an absolute S**ter first week for NZ.

Hopefully we will get some rowing in today if weather holds. A gold in there.

As for Rugby, NZRU just got served a slamming punch by All Blacks coach, Steve Hansen. Pretty much blaming them for not letting Sevens capable players out of Test and Super Rugby duties in Olympic year.

Still FULL SUPPORT THROWN IN BEHIND FIJI!!!!

Yes there have been some disappointments - but I'm not sure its as dire as you make it out to be. New Zealand still has plenty of chances up oursleves - the mens sevens were a disappointment and we should have done better. The NZRU let the side down I believe and I have been told as much by people close to the team. The shooting medal was a real bonus and yes the equestrian team had some rotten luck.

Ouch! The body language between Steve Tiew (NZRU boss) and Sevens coach Sir Gordon Tietjens was palpable when they were interviewed on TV tonight.

Steve Tiew has been getting a hard time from Kiwi fans in Rio since the Sevens men's side failed. Ironically Tiew is at the Olympics for his daughter who is in the women's Eights rowing crew.

BUT we hold out for Bond and Murray...
