olympiaki-agones Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 I'm fed up of any Far East Asian multi-sport event. I rather watch Oprah playing the Ukelele while some circus freaks dance next to her.
mattygs Posted October 19, 2014 Report Posted October 19, 2014 After Sochi, pretty much every other ceremony this year has been a dissapointment. And don't worry, Indonesia will do a big show for sure. Their ceremonies for the 2011 SEA Games were much better than this (even though they were too inspired by Doha 2006) I know Korea didn't wanted to show off for an event which is not much viewed as the olympics, and considering the heavy criticism on money expense those events are getting, this would explain why they decided to do more simple ceremonies. However they need to do something better in 2018. Those projections were very pre-2006 quality. Being a country known for all their technology prowess i'm quite disappointed As for the Asiad themselves, despite the decent organization, they suffered of a worrying number of empty seats as well for referee controversies. At least most of the stands of that massive stadium they did are temporary. Let's hope Indonesia improves. I just attempted to watch some of the closing ceremony. What is it about the Asian Games (and their hybrids), their ceremonies seem to end up as a total want fest. I watched some of the Indonesian handover. what was the deal with that long winded introduction video, outlining ring roads and stating that they had been *preparing since early* Surely the public doesn't need a lesson on current government funding and public policy , just come out and do your wee dance then go home.

mattygs Posted October 19, 2014 Report Posted October 19, 2014 To be fair, I think to a large degree for many foreigners it's the other way round. There is a struggle to match Bali to Indonesia, I think to many Bali is....... Bali. So maybe that's something to work on.

olympiaki-agones Posted October 21, 2014 Report Posted October 21, 2014 Well you need to get use to East Asia you will be seeing more of them in the next 8 ,years. I know, and that is why I hate the current bidding race! Munich 2018, Istanbul 2020 and Krakow 2022 would have been interesting olympic editions.
Ikarus360 Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 ^^ Seeing the low enthusiasm of koreans at multi sport events (except when their national teams or athletes are competing), I have to agree about Munich. Dunno about Istanbul. Although the city is beautiful, Erdogan is pretty much a Putin wannabe who would had used the games for politics and would had invested insane amounts of money as well. Japan was the safest choice, like it or not. Krakow sealed its fate with that referendum and when they wanted to share venues with Slovakia, which is a big no-no on the IOC rules.
Gold Coast Lions Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 The are hardly any people at the Asian Para Games in Incheon which is an real worried for the 2018 Winter Games in South Korea even at the Opening Ceremony there were empty seats.
