Former Vancouver Olympics CEO denies abuse allegations

It seems hardly imaginable from a man who seemed to be so calm, modest and a man of high integrity during the Vancouver Games. But it might confirm the saying, "Still waters run deep".

It's already strange that Furlong didn't mention in his autobiography that he lived and worked in Canada already before 1974 - even more strange is that the media didn't seem to know about that, although there was even a newspaper report in 1970 about Furlong's wedding in British Columbia. That report is briefly shown in the video at the top of the article Ski Freak posted.

I wish that those accusations are wrong - but I also get the impression that they aren't. Which would be a shame - because in whose integrity you can still have trust if not in the integrity of an (apparent) gentleman like John Furlong?

Addendum: John Furlong suspects a "personal vendetta" from the reporter Laura Robinson. According to the video in this article, he says that he already had to deal with her on many occasions in the past.

Robinson, on the other hand, now plans a counter-suit because of those allegations by Furlong: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/british-columbia/bc-reporter-plans-counter-suit-over-john-furlongs-allegations-about-her-research/article4577421/

So this will obviously turn into a really nasty legal battle...

Hmmm... Even if it always seems a bit suspicious when so many people suddenly raise such allegations after all those years - but hey, the same was the case for Jimmy Savile, and there, the allegations apparently are absolutely true.

I really fear now that John Furlong isn't the calm and humane gentleman we got to know in Vancouver... Or he changed completely since his younger years, which I deem rather improbable, though.

The wife of former Vancouver Olympic organizing committee president John Furlong has been killed in a car crash in Ireland.

Deborah Sharp Furlong died when the car she was driving in by herself collided with another vehicle on Thursday.

She was vacationing in the southeast of the country.

In a statement issued to CTV News, John Furlong said "It is with a broken heart that I must tell you of the death of my beloved wife."

"While our extended families are beyond words over this loss, we would like to thank our friends and well-wishers for their heartfelt concern and condolences as our families face this sudden and painful tragedy," he said.

What's most ironic about that is--wasn't Furlong originally from Ireland?

Yes, he is - and he accompanied his wife on that journey (of course, one might say): http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/story/2013/04/12/bc-deborah-sharp-furlong.html

So why shouldn't he travel to his home country once in a while?

Was NOT saying he couldn't vacation back in the Old Sod. I just didn't know that they were together because she (the wife) was driving alone. One would think that when they're together in the man's home country, he would be the macho guide of the couple. Anyway, it was just a minor observation.
