I was in the Olympic park in the beginning of January

Like the buses, but hoping the quality of the extended grass areas improves.

oh and the front of Kings Cross WWWWWWAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's some of the same grass area as on your photo P1100372, seen in May 2014. Definitely a work in progress!

Ok I don't know whether that's creative, hilarious, or stupid, or all 3 of them!

Seems a bit out of the ordinary, even for England, to do something like this for the public. It would make more sense if Japan or South Korea did it, especially SK with their Love Park

But then again some cities in Europe do surprise you. Paris not too long ago had a green butt plug in the middle of town. It wasn't all that well received (heh) but they still had the balls to put it up

Installation of the first of 14 brand new floodlight towers to the former Olympic Stadium has begun. The lights will illuminate a wide variety of events at the iconic venue in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, from football and concerts to other sporting events and community days.

Hmmmm. The way they describe the new arrangement seems rather awkward:

"They will retain their iconic triangular design but hang inverted below the Stadium’s new roof"

.... and I await with interest pictures showing a few of them fully installed.

Mo Farah has returned to the London 2012 Olympic Stadium, the scene of his double gold-medal winning success, to launch this summer's edition of the Sainsbury's Anniversary Games.

The world's best athletes are set to head to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park for the three-day athletics spectacular, including a two-day International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Diamond League meeting from July 24 to 25, and the Sainsbury's International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics Grand Prix Final on July 26.

With the IAAF World Championships set to take place in Beijing from August 22 to 30, the Games will provide athletes with the opportunity to make final preparations.

The first edition of the event was held at the same venue in July 2013, and saw Farah claim 3,000 metres victory nearly a year after being crowned the 5,000m and 10,000m Olympic champion.

On Saturday (February 21), the 31-year-old claimed the first world record of his career as he won the two-mile race at the Sainsbury's Indoor Grand Prix in Birmingham.

"It's fantastic that the Sainsbury's Anniversary Games is planning to return to the former Olympic Stadium this summer and I can't wait to get back on this track to compete, at what will be a stunning celebration of athletics," he said.

"The atmosphere will be amazing and I'm sure it will bring back the memories of London 2012 and the inaugural Sainsbury's Anniversary Games in 2013.

"I hope the British public will be as excited as I am about this event, and will come out to support the athletes.

"I'm sure it will be the best outdoor meet this year and a great send off to the World Championships."

The floodlight rig in that picture crystallises my first impression. Putting a triangle upside down turns the advantages of a right-way-up triangle into disadvantages !

Speaking of which, someone going by the name of IllustratorUK has created this interative 3d model of the stadium in athletics mode...

I'm unsure what the plans are for the RWC for this venue - I don't know if the retractable seating will be in by then or whether it'll be temporary seating placed over the track. So you might end up seeing it in a transistional phase still.

Hard to believe that the Games are already three years ago!

Definitely, it'll be interesting to see how the new avatar of the Olympic Stadium shapes up - but compared to Beijing and Athens, London has done well in the legacy department for its main stadium!

With just one lighting gantry on each side left to instal (and work on the roof covering proceeding nicely), the West Ham website seems to have dropped the live webcam feeds. They are, however, still available from Lobster Vision.

The actual structure of the roof is not getting any prettier- it's like an attempt to imitate the Bird's Nest based on the London 2012 graphics template.

Well, the Daily Mail's informational value is barely above that of your bespoke toilet paper, so I'm a bit dubious about headlines like "Athens' New Ruins"...however, it's fairly established that many of the venues have fallen into disuse or have been abandoned as a result of the sovereign debt crisis.
