Mainad Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 Shanghai seems the obvious choice for China's next hosting. It is the only other iconic, world-famous Chinese city after Beijing if you discount Hong Kong.
baron-pierreIV Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 If you're going to attempt jokes you should try to at least make them funny. No, I don't play to humorless sourpusses like u.
Baptista Posted September 17, 2012 Author Report Posted September 17, 2012 Shanghai seems the obvious choice for China's next hosting. It is the only other iconic, world-famous Chinese city after Beijing if you discount Hong Kong. Unfortunately, will be very difficult to see Hong Kong to host Summer Olympic Games. This city has it´s own NOC and it is a special administrative region of PRC... I agree with you, Shangai seems the obvious choise.
FiveRingFever Posted September 21, 2012 Report Posted September 21, 2012 Shangai...it would be nice host Nice job photoshopping in that blue sky!!
paul Posted September 21, 2012 Report Posted September 21, 2012 I love HK, wish they could do it, there must be a way. Nice job photoshopping in that blue sky!! Missing a bunch of new construction
LiuTian Posted September 23, 2012 Report Posted September 23, 2012 Well they hosted the 2007 Games and the resort is closer to them then Harbin's. Also that resort hosts a WC every year building up experience. Harbin Host 1996 Games, then Changchun 2007 Games. Harbin is the most famous city in northeast China, larger and richer than Changchun. So Harbin is always China's first choice.
hufus Posted September 24, 2012 Report Posted September 24, 2012 I'd suggest Chengdu. China is really trying to make it the inland capital and third prominent city, with currently all attention being focussed very much on the coast and particularly in the greater Beijing region, greater Shanghai region, and Hong Kong. Chengdu has some experience in hosting major events and probably has the necessary infrastructure, and as they did with Beijing, China will only bid for the advertising, rather than the love of sport or the festival. They need a message to sell to bother, and I suspect the message that could most easily be sent by an Olympics in China is that it has not just Beijing and Shanghai, or even Hong Kong, but 4 major centres. As far as the Winter Olympics go, I suspect they might put in a bid and probably win it, but it wouldn't be a major priority.
Faster Posted September 24, 2012 Report Posted September 24, 2012 My sources have indicated the Chinese are working very, very hard against Tokyo in order to bid with Shanghai for 2028. If Tokyo is to win, they will likely allow Kazakhstan to get the next Asian winter games before going after 2032 or 2036 with Shanghai.
Sir Rols Posted September 24, 2012 Report Posted September 24, 2012 China being a bit greedy?? Yeah, I've no doubt the Japanese would be particularly on the nose with the Chinese at the moment, but I think it'd be counter- productive to try such a strategy at this stage.
emre Posted September 24, 2012 Report Posted September 24, 2012 please cities with easy names. even pyongcheang (?) makes me rethink twice before writing cant handle a cahngcou or somewhere like this harbin is easy ... GO HARBİN:)
Kenadian Posted October 5, 2012 Report Posted October 5, 2012 Shanghai makes sense as the next Chinese summer games. But I don't see it happening for about 30 years. There are other places to go. As for the winter games, not sure about China. Harbin seems the most 'logical' but the distance to the mountain resort is always going to be an issue. The city isn't the first to have this trouble and it won't be the last. In many respects, the winter games have greater limitations. They have outgrown the small resort towns but there aren't a lot of big cities nestled in snowcapped mountains and IOC can't allow too many Squaw Valleys and Sochis with a complete set of winter facilities being built from scratch. In the future, the IOC will have to make some concessions and Harbin could benefit from that.
baron-pierreIV Posted October 5, 2012 Report Posted October 5, 2012 The forum is unbelievable. I mean London 2012 is barely cold and you get thread likes...the NEXT English city to bid; the next Canadian city; the next Chinese city... the Next RUSSIAN city to bid! Even the next Brazilian city to bid/host!?! How about the next Turkish city to host? I mean Japan is easy, Tokyo win or lose, The 2nd choice is of course Osaka. OK, the next South African city to host after Durban??
Kenadian Posted October 5, 2012 Report Posted October 5, 2012 But you know the cycle. The Olympics come to a close, we get the silly season of 'which athletes have you never met' and 'why Tulsa 2024 is the best bid ever', then we get the 'what ifs' and 'what nexts' and a number of threads about Minneapolis, Toronto and Paris, followed by a couple of competitions, and then the real bid season heats up and we're all focused on that. Although this bid cycle...not the most intense we've seen...so maybe we'll get a few more threads about 'which fictional athlete should light the Olympic cauldron' or 'which historic figure, living or dead, would make the best IOC president". Let the Games begin.
tikus_kecil Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 After Beijing lost to Sydney, there is proposal in China to go with Guangzhou, seems like China will go with Guangzhou for next SOG, but before that, they'll try Cangcun/Harbin for WOG
Brekkie Boy Posted October 11, 2012 Report Posted October 11, 2012 That feels about right to me too. The US has been made to wait, and so will China. But both are still superpowers so I doubt either will be waiting too long between hostings. 30 years feels about right. The difference though is the US have hosted 4 times, China only once. I think it's inevitable Shanghai will host within our life times and probably sooner rather than later - any time from the 30's on. I also agree that they'll probably get a second summer games before a Winter Games.

Guangzhou has virtually no name recognition outside of Asia, especially when compared to Shanghai. If it's gonna be a Chinese city, it's gonna be Shanghai or Hong Kong. And no, the Chinese couldn't care less about a Winter Games in Harbin - it's just not prestigious enough.

Agree about the Shanghai is more well-known, but since I'm not chinese -Yeah I am a Chinese Indonesia anyway- so i can't read Chinese govt mind, would they go with the WOG/SOG 1st
Athensfan Posted October 12, 2012 Report Posted October 12, 2012 I think the Chinese will offer Harbin next. For one thing, they've got more growing to do in Winter Sports and Games on home soil will act as a catalyst for progress. For another, Beijing was so striking that following it up with another Summer Games will be challenging. China threw everything they had at Beijing. If I were in their shoes, I'd try to stage the grandest WINTER Games ever before going back to the Summer edition. Let some more time pass and then wow the world with a spectacle in Shanghai. To me, that's the approach that makes the most sense for them.

If it is Guangzhou, it'll certainly be with Hong Kong. The area is basically integrating into a greater metro area known as Pearl River Delta, with Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Macau at the core. In terms of population and economic output, it certainly ranks up there with metro area likes of Tokyo, New York, Los Angeles, London, etc.
dchang11 Posted September 11, 2013 Report Posted September 11, 2013 China is not going to host the Summer Olympics in the near future. Maybe 50 years down the line. I do see a possible Winter Olympics bid.

I do see a possible Winter Olympics bid. I don't think it will take China 50 years to host more Summer Games. I also think they're absolutely certain to offer Shanghai next.
