Olympic Fan Darcy
Phelps appears in two photos, which were leaked on Twitter and were allegedly linked to a fashion campaign for the luxury brand Louis Vuitton. Rule 40 of the Olympic Games states no athlete can be involved in non-Olympic marketing campaigns from July 18 to August 15, 2012. If the leaked photographs were found to be approved by Phelps and were leaked intentionally by the brand, he could be stripped of his medals. However, if the photos were leaked by an unknown person, Phelps will not be penalised http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/leaked-photos-of-olympian-michael-phelps-on-twitter-for-louis-vitton-spark-talk-of-him-losing-medals/story-fnecs5mx-1226453417352 http://www.thehollywoodgossip.com/2012/08/michael-phelps-louis-vuitton-photos-land-swimmer-in-hot-water-wi/ http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2190003/Michael-Phelps-Swimmer-hot-water-Louis-Vuitton-ad-leaked-end-Olympics.html Here are the images
Rob2012
If the IOC did anything that stupid and over the top in terms of punishment, I think it'd be extremely unlikely a US swimming team would turn up in Rio in four years' time. intoronto
I doubt they strip him of his medals.
Athensfan
It seems universally acknowledged that the photos were leaked prematurely by a rogue individual -- not Phelps himself. Contractually, Phelps and Louis Vuitton agreed to launch the campaign the day after the IOCs deadline passed. Phelps will not lose his medals because he is not the guilty party here. This is just sensationalistic journalism.
Pillan
This is a stupid rule. Sweden's icehockey national team had they same problem after their gold in Winter olympics 2006. The celebrated their gold with the swedsih people in STHLM...in this celebration they had sponsor that weren't allowed for IOC. But IOC let Sweden keep the gold medeal. I think Phelps can take it easy. He will keep his medals and righfully so.

deawebo
I don't think the IOC will be too harsh... It seems a bit stupid this rule... At least a punshiment where he must pay something, not stripping his medals off...
