BABYLON
DC Mayor wants to include other cities in a 2024 bid. A Washington/Richmond Olympics... history and Civil War buffs will have a blast with that! Boston with its universities and their athletic facilities would make a good candidate. Dozens of world-class venues already exist there. Universities in Boston can get together and build venues they actually need, and the collective effort will lead to no white elephants and venues that won’t be used after the Games. A new Olympic Stadium can be build in Wonderland with the Olympic Village close by.

intoronto
That is not a definite no. It can definitely change between now and 2014 when a USOC bid would likely be due.
Athensfan
That is not a definite no. It can definitely change between now and 2014 when a USOC bid would likely be due. Agreed. BTW, theres no such thing as a "shoe-in." Its "shoo-in" -- as in waving someone across the finish line. I don't think they exist in Olympic races anyhow. This whole conversation belongs in USA 2024. Why do people insist on starting redundant threads?

Pointing out a redundant thread and a common misspelling qualifies as a "poisonous swamp of petty bickering and pedantry"? Someone has a gift for hyperbole. Hyperbole: a figure of speech. Colorful overstatement for dramatic effect. I never described London as "grandiose." self-referential -- absolutely. FYI
That may not be a "definite no" from Chicago, but when the mayor's office comes flat out N says "we're not interesting in pursuing a 2024 Olympic bid", that doesn't seem very encouraging in the least. So I'm not holding my breath on that one. We'll C others, like probably Philadelphia N L.A., & maybe Washington & Dallas, but that's as good as it's gonna get, I'm afraid. Unless we all get behind the recent, blundering rumblings coming outta Tulsa! ROTFLMAO!!
paul92
Washington DC would make a great host - with the whole park area will all the monuments. There could be some awesome venues there. But surely NYC has to host it soon. I find it amazing that it hasn't ever hosted it before, being the world's joint top leading city (Joint with London). Hoping for NYC2024. I'm not holding my breath either, but I'd love to be pleasantly surprised. I think there might still be a small chance of that happening. I'm guessing that journalist used the same Emanuel quote that we heard shortly after the revenue deal. Changes of direction have been known to happen, but I agree it's not looking likely. Hoping for NYC2024. I think what gives Washington DC an opportunity is they have a possible site. If the demolish the RFK Stadium, you've got a perfect location of an Olympic Stadium. And with Snyder talking of relocating the Redskins back into the District of Columbia from Maryland, you've got a post games tenant. With social issues in Washington, converting the Olympic Village into affordable housing also strikes me as having superb legacy possibilities

Hoping for NYC2024. DC would make a great location for the games, but it is SOO hot there. Same with Dallas. Cities that have summers that have temperatures go well above 100 need to be behind cities that have more comfortable temperatures like Philly or NYC.
