Traditionally, the tallest tower has been taller than the tallest building, because the safety limitations have been less of an issue. Being beaten by Burj Khalifa is a slap in the face. gotosy Posted March 11, 2016 Author Report Share Posted March 11, 2016 Olympics: Olympic minister wants Fukushima to stage baseball, softball Olympic minister Toshiaki Endo reiterated his hope Friday that Fukushima Prefecture can host the first rounds of baseball and softball at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, as he spoke on the fifth anniversary of the massive earthquake and tsunami that struck the region. The Games' organizing committee recommended to the International Olympic Committee last September that baseball and softball as well as four other sports be added to the program for the 2020 Games. Endo has been talking to the organizing committee president Yoshiro Mori as well as IOC President Thomas Bach about holding the sports in the prefecture, which was also severely affected by the meltdowns at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. "I'd certainly like to host the sports at Fukushima Prefecture," Endo said at a press conference following a Cabinet meeting. "At the moment we have no events scheduled to take place in Fukushima, which has been most affected. We'll be working toward staging them there." Two other most affected regions, Iwate and Miyagi prefectures, have already been handed a boost by being named to host games at the Rugby World Cup in 2019 and first-round soccer matches at the 2020 Games, respectively. Just because you already won the right to host the games and you want to make a few changes to your bid,THAT concept shouldn't be one of the things to change. Also, there's no point in holding any baseball games that far from Tokyo because there are already more than enough stadiums in the greater Tokyo area. You have the Tokyo Dome in Bunkyo that holds about a 42k seating capacity, Meiji Jingu Stadium in Shinjuku that has a capacity of over 73k, Chiba Marine Stadium in Chiba City that has about a 30k capacity, Seibu Dome in Saitama that has a capacity of over 33k and Yokohama Stadium in Yokohama has a capacity of about 30k. And if you think people are worried about the Zika virus in Brazil now, what makes you think people will flock to go see a game in Fukushima? I'm sorry Japan but stop trying to revitalize that tragic mess of a city by forcing people to go see an Olympic games over there.
