FYI
They have to check out their radiation problem that affects to the world not only Japan, and when they were clean then can bid the Games Wow, really? Then Spain should do the same. They need to get their house & economy in order first. "THEN they too, can bid for the Games".

gotosy
Princess Hisako to attend IOC meetTOKYO, Sept. 2, KyodoPrincess Hisako will attend Saturday's general meeting of the International Olympic Committee to select the 2020 Summer Olympic host from three candidate cities including Tokyo, the Imperial Household Agency said Monday. But the agency's Grand Steward Noriyuki Kazaoka, who has denied imperial family members' engagement in Tokyo's campaigns to host the Olympics, noted Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko may be concerned about the presence of the princess at the IOC meeting. Before the Japanese presentation for Tokyo at the IOC meeting in Buenos Aires, Princess Hisako, widow of the late Prince Takamado, will make a speech thanking the world for supporting northeastern Japan after the devastating March 2011 earthquake and tsunami, the agency said. The princess had planned to visit Argentina from Tuesday through Saturday to express thanks at talks with IOC members and at a reception on the eve of the IOC general meeting. But education minister Hakubun Shimomura requested Grand Steward Kazaoka late last month to arrange Princess Hisako's attendance at the IOC general meeting and a similar request came later from Deputy Cabinet Secretary Kazuhiro Sugita. In response to those requests, the agency made a "difficult decision," Kazaoka said.Kyodo
baron-pierreIV
/\/\ Good move on the Tokyo team's part. It seems Princess Hisako is a very accomplished, well-traveled person; and extremely fluent in English, having been educated in England. So the Tokyo team picked a very competent campaigner who will help lock in the votes. Her husband, Prince Takamodo, was a first cousin of the current Emperor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hisako_Tottori The Princess also holds a high honor from Spain. She is a Dame Grand Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholic. Edited September 2, 2013 by baron-pierreIV
bimbo87
This is what IOC members will find when they arrive in Buenos Aires. Argentinian and Spanish flags along Buenos Aires streets. baron-pierreIV
/\/\ As if Argentina didn't learn. Remember the provocative AOC ad filmed in the Falklands? Uh-huh...the IOC asked that it be taken off the air. Whether that shot is real is not, you'd think the Argentine authorities would've learned by now. Takeshima
No Tokio!!! I was afraid about radiation !!! Please save the planet and after you can host OG Why fear? Radiation level in Tokyo is one of the LOWEST out of ALL other major capital cities. If you don't want Tokyo to win the bid that's totally understandable but please state facts and not fears and fictitious lies . Radiophobia, the irrational fear promotion of radiation. There are many areas around the world with multiple times higher levels of natural background radiation than in evacuation zone around Fukushima, The people living in these areas show no harmful effects from radiation. Also the Radiation level in Tokyo is a non issue. UN report shortly after 3/11: the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation has drawn on 80 scientists from 18 countries to produce a draft report that concludes: "Radiation exposure following the nuclear accident at Fukushima-Daiichi did not cause any immediate health effects. It is unlikely to be able to attribute any health effects in the future among the general public and the vast majority of workers." Radiation fear debunked pt2.. Tokyo radiation levels significantly lower than other Capitals I understand that people get excited during the run up to saturday's decision and want their favorites to win but promoting the LIE that Tokyo is highly radiated and should not host the games on safety grounds is frankly pathetic!
Sir Rols
Who needs Messi? ... Japanese robo-astronaut utters first robotic words in space The robot Kirobo in the International Space Station. The chatty Japanese robot has uttered its first words in space. Japanese robot MIRATA has given his support to the Tokyo 2020 Bid from Buenos Aires A PINT-sized android has uttered the first robotic words in space, showcasing Japan's drive to combine cutting-edge technology with cuteness. The wide-eyed and bootie-wearing "Kirobo" - roughly the size of a chihuahua - broadcast a message from inside the International Space Station, greeting citizens of Earth and paying cheeky tribute to Neil Armstrong. "On August 21, 2013, a robot took one small step toward a brighter future for all," Kirobo said in a video that showed the humanoid creation drifting weightlessly on-board the ISS, as it moved its legs in the air. The images made their global debut yesterday as part of Tokyo's bid for the 2020 Games during a presentation ahead of a meeting of the International Olympic Committee in Buenos Aires which will decide the host city. "Good morning to everyone on Earth. This is Kirobo. I am the world's first talking robot astronaut. Nice to meet you," it said in Japanese. The humanoid was created jointly by advertising firm Dentsu, the University of Tokyo, robot developer Robo Garage and Toyota. The robot stands just 34cm tall and weighs about 1kg. It left Earth on August 4 on a cargo-carrying rocket that was also delivering supplies to the ISS. Kirobo is programmed to communicate in Japanese and keep records of its conversations with Koichi Wakata, the first Japanese astronaut to command the ISS. The robot is part of a study aimed at seeing how a non-human companion can provide emotional support for people isolated over long periods. paul
Tokyo's bid a high-stakes gamble for Japan PM, Abenomics-Reuters the Olympic decision could even affect one of Abe's most pressing policy decisions: whether to go ahead with a planned doubling of the national sales tax, Japan's biggest attempt in years to get its runaway public debt under control. ( congratulation?) "In his heart of hearts, Abe probably wants to delay the tax hike," said a person close to him. "But if we get the Olympics and there's only minimal economic turmoil from (any U.S.) air strike on Syria, he'll probably have to swallow the tax hike." People close to Abe are privately expressing confidence in Tokyo's bid, despite the growing global concerns over Fukushima, where conditions appear to be worsening two and a half years after the nuclear plant was crippled by an earthquake and tsunami. But in recent weeks, Japan has returned to the global headlines with a series of damaging disclosures about the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant 230 km (140 miles) from Tokyo. The plant's operator has been forced to reverse denials and admit that hundreds of tons of radioactive water are pouring into the Pacific Ocean each day, and radiation levels have spiked. Abe's government said this week it will spend almost half a billion dollars to try to fix the water crisis. Critics said the government's sudden embrace of the issue was aimed largely at winning the Olympic bid.
