Blazerblaz3
Yeah I think we've all come to the conclusion that the cauldron will be on the floor/stage and not the roof. This kinetic sculpture is intriguing me. Imagine a moving / "living" cauldron.
Nacholympic
If the cauldron at Maracaná will be used only for the ceremonies, is quite obvious it will be on the floor...
baron-pierreIV
If the cauldron at Maracaná will be used only for the ceremonies, is quite obvious it will be on the floor... They will need it for 4 ceremonies...or maybe even altered for the Paralympics.

Aren't they going to play football there? I guess something like London will happen when they will move the cauldron to another place of the stadium.

Blazerblaz3
Great video. Anybody speak Portuguese and can translate what they're saying about the cauldron?
Nacholympic
I don't speak Portuguese, but it's too similar to Spanish. What they basically say is: We are one month to go for the games. The city of Rio due its nature, is an Olympic city by itself. In Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas (Lagoon) will be the rowing and rafting disciplines. Today, the national army and police took control of the security of the venues. It was estimated that 9,600 army men should have taken the control of security, but this number has been decreased by 3.000 military personel that are now out of the plan. To compensate this lack of security personel, the police officers have to work more hours that join to army forces for venues security. The latest days a police car was reached by a shot. Nevertheless this fact, the Minister of Justice say that there is no probability of a terrorist attack during the games. Bewteen 2009 and 2016 Rio has doubled the hotel capacity and now all of them are held. Rio now will have an integrated transportaton system and a new subway line, the number 4, which will get Barra de Tijuca zone. Now there is a new Olympic Museum in Rio. In the entrance there is a simulator of the beggining of a track race, to compare your speed with the speed of the fatest men on earth: Usain Bolt. The renovated port zone, will be the Olympic Boulevard during the games, and that zone will concentrate all the celebrations, concerts and parties. Also the Olympic cauldron will be located in that place, across from the Candelaria church. It wil be the very first time for the Summer Games that the cauldron will be located in a non competition place. Well, that's basically all about....

Maybe it'll be something more like Vancouver, where the main cauldron will be out in the open and the cauldron in the stadium will only be used for the ceremonies
yoshi
How will they transfer the flame to the port? Are we gonna see another 'redneck Popemobile' like Vancouver? Or will they want something more seamless?

Blazerblaz3
How will they transfer the flame to the port? Are we gonna see another 'redneck Popemobile' like Vancouver? Or will they want something more seamless? Good question. If the articles I've read are accurate the two will be lit at the same time. So maybe Lighter A will be the next to last runner, meets Lighter B at the far end of the stadium and by the time Lighter A run/walks to the stadium cauldron, Lighter B will be transported (on the back of a Phoenix maybe!?!? ) to the Cauldron by the bay. Hopefully they don't put Pele on the back of a Toyota Tacoma and drive him down the boulevard.
cubebox
A simultaneous lighting? Pele at Maracana and Vanderlei Da Lima running to the cauldron at the Port Area
yoshi
Are there 3 sections to that structure being built in the picture there? Could it be a giant, burning logo?
JMarkSnow2012
I'm guessing they're keeping the phoenix caged up under those tents? Are there 3 sections to that structure being built in the picture there? Could it be a giant, burning logo? I think we're seeing an enclosure for the Cauldron (circular, double-walled) and, above it in the close-up photo, a fairly substantial bungalow-type cabin which may well be used to accommodate 24-hour security guards.

No. I'm thinking that at a certain point equidistant between Maracana and the cauldron point (maybe Rio City Hall?) two teams will set out simultaneously -- one for Maracana until the, say, the final 3 lighters; and then another flame is relayed by other runners until it reaches that Plaza (whatever it's called) and then the final 2 or 3 lighters are also waiting there. It doesn't have to be run by truck or supersonic jet to either location. That's why you have low-tech runners for that. It's just a matter of timing and coordination. And then audiences at Maracana and on TV all over the globe will get a split screen lighting. (That's never been shown that way before, as I recall.) By tradition, the flame spends the night before the OC at the City Hall of the host city. So from there, they can already split the flame 2 ways, each route headed for the stadium and the larger cauldron. That is how I might do it. Blazerblaz3
No. It looks like a series of circles. Looks like its going to be surrounded by water. There's one pipe in the very middle of the circles. could be water or gas. Guessing the pieces of the actual cauldron are under the tents waiting to be constructed. I can't make out whats in the section behind the tents and toilets. Enhanced it in photo shop and its still all dark.

So maybe it'll be something like what Sydney did with their cauldron after the games Is That's Where It's Gonna Be After The Opening Ceremony? Why would they move the cauldron after the games? It seems like a good place for legacy mode.
