Blazerblaz3 Posted May 25, 2016 Report Posted May 25, 2016 Okay so what if they put the cauldron in the pool that's under the museum's overhang which sticks out into the bay? Quote
Blazerblaz3 Posted May 25, 2016 Report Posted May 25, 2016 Google photo sphere of that area. https://www.google.com/maps/@-22.8953655,-43.1799602,3a,75y,96.24h,82.73t/data=!3m8!1e1!3m6!1s-LGD5zxl0ROI%2FVzjwm_UMg8I%2FAAAAAAAGRLw%2F2s9j3xeloLAHvrVJko8qZEg6XD_9zgDVgCLIB!2e4!3e11!6s%2F%2Flh3.googleusercontent.com%2F-LGD5zxl0ROI%2FVzjwm_UMg8I%2FAAAAAAAGRLw%2F2s9j3xeloLAHvrVJko8qZEg6XD_9zgDVgCLIB%2Fw229-h100-n-k-no%2F!7i8704!8i3796!6m1!1e1 Quote

Nacholympic Posted May 26, 2016 Report Posted May 26, 2016 I have the feeling they keep a surprise. They can not be so predictable of having the cauldron in that place... (Strongly resembling Vancouver) May be there is a second cauldron in the Olympic park or sth like this... Really, I don't like the idea of having the cauldron in such place Quote

baron-pierreIV Posted May 26, 2016 Report Posted May 26, 2016 I've always looked at this spot for a possible cauldron That's so Vancouver and almost like Sochi. I imagine Rio 2016 might be a little more imaginative with such a vast city, maybe 10x larger than Vancouver; and 20x larger than Sochi. It has to be near downtown so that there's something that visitors can gravitate towards in the old downtown. Maybe in front of Rio's City Hall or Cathedral? Quote

neneu10 Posted June 2, 2016 Report Posted June 2, 2016 The video also says that the height of cauldron is around 7m and will be lit in the same time as the Maracanã's one... Quote
Bezzi Posted June 2, 2016 Report Posted June 2, 2016 The cauldron will be 7 meters high so no need that ugly fences I think. And if will lit at the same time, this means that will not be moved but we will have two cauldrons Quote
cubebox Posted June 2, 2016 Report Posted June 2, 2016 I found this video about the "Olympic Boulevard". Including the area close to the Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Candelaria https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAYpznrRjyY&feature=youtu.be 1 Quote
JMarkSnow2012 Posted June 2, 2016 Report Posted June 2, 2016 Hmmmm. Google Earth's timeline shows that there's an area at the bottom end of the Av. Pres. Vargas, between the Candelaria church and the sea, which has been used as something like a contractors' yard ever since the old elevated highway was demolished. It's a blot on an area which has otherwise been much improved, so with luck it will be transformed by August ... So it still looks like a contractors' yard, but at least there appear to be people working in it, and there's well over two months until the opening ceremony. No pressure. Quote
cubebox Posted June 2, 2016 Report Posted June 2, 2016 Watching the map, Maracana Stadium is in "straight " line to that church through Pres. Vargas Av. Quote
rodrigo_dpc Posted June 2, 2016 Report Posted June 2, 2016 I think that in some moment of the ceremony it will be shown a torchbearer arriving at Av. Pres. Vargas and passing the flame to two torchbearer. One will run to the right towards the Maracana and the other will go the left towards the cauldron in the square, arriving both at the same time to light them. Quote
baron-pierreIV Posted June 3, 2016 Report Posted June 3, 2016 So I guess, here are the 2 prototypes of the cauldron. One which will appear from the floor of Maracana; and then the other one built down by the Candelaria Church. So they must be plotting the distance and the scale of the caldera here. Quote

IT'S NOT a caldron prototype. It's pieces of scenario from paralympic OC. Do you really think that they would reveal the caldron prototype? They're working with secrets. Until now we know more from paralympic ceremonies than olympic's one. Quote
Ikarus360 Posted June 3, 2016 Report Posted June 3, 2016 I was going to say the same thing. Plus god forbid that is the cauldron because I can already see pineapple jokes/comparisons. Also, about being lit at the same time, I guess it will be something similar to Baku 2015,since there were two Solar Eclipse-shaped cauldron, one at the stadium and another one at Baku's bay. Quote

neneu10 Posted June 3, 2016 Report Posted June 3, 2016 My guess for the cauldron.. I think they're building first the cauldron's place like they did in London and Vancouver, then they'll build the rest of stage around the cauldron spot... 1 Quote
