Synchronized Swimming at the 2012 Summer Olympics

This topic is going to have mixed reactions to the idea that this is even an event at the Olympic Games. Today (August 5), synchronized swimming starts things off, with the women's duet qualification technical routine.

Today (August 6) sees that the women's duet event have its qualifying free routine done, in preparation for the Olympic medal round the next day.

Final medal results for the women's duet event on August 7:

- GOLD: Natalia Ishchenko / Svetlana Romashina (Russia)

- SILVER: Ona Carbonell Ballestero / Andrea Fuentes Fache (Spain)

- BRONZE: HUANG Xuechen / LIU Ou (China)

Wonderfully entertaining. Perfect for an Opening Ceremony!! :lol:

I think the staccato movements cannot be avoided because you have to breathe, stay afloat & at the same time execute synchor choreography. So the only way to do that is with the choppy, staccato movements. Long, leisurely, languid strokes & movements would be very hard to coordinate. That is my amateur guess.
