"The doctor has been chosen. A jury of appeal said South Africa "had been severely damaged" in a collision between Ofentse Mogawane and a Kenyan runner who cut across him too soon in the second section of Thursday's morning heat. Durban Sandshark Posted August 9, 2012 Report Share Posted August 9, 2012 Lolo Jones yesterday went on NBC Today tearfully speaking about the harpooning from the media in the leadup to her disappointing finish in the 110m hurdles, notbaly that Jere Longman's New York Times article slamming her on the eve of her final. Basically what he says is that he feels Lolo thinks she's "all that" and even called her "the Anna Kournikova of track and field"--all beauty and hype with little substance as a public figure. But Lolo must realize that it is not the job of American reporters and media institutions to blindly support Team USA. A good deal of the attention she got from this she brought on herself and should prepare for backlashes. I don't think she's poor athlete, but she's not technically gifted like Sally Pearson is. That said, Lolo is very attractive and ever since photography hit the scene almost two centuries ago there's this serious gravitation towards the photogenetic. Media institutions tends to hype attractive people, that's the reality. Even Dawn Harper and Kellie blasted her afterwards, and harsh as they maybe be in the words, their achievements in getting medals should be noticed. Like to know how Sally Pearson would regard all this as an Australian. Was the article harsh? Yeah, more so because of the timing. Makes you wonder how different things would be had she not crashed at the final hurdle in Beijing while leading. That carries a legacy of its own and it grows... Mitchell ran the lead-off leg for the United States quartet, who went through to Friday's final as the second fastest team despite Mitchell's injury. "As soon as I took the first step past the 200m mark, I felt it break." Manteo told the USA Track and Field website. "I didn't want to let the three guys or the team down, so I just ran on it." Mitchell still managed to finish the opening lap in 46.1 seconds as the US team went on to set a qualifying time of two minutes, 58.87 seconds. "It hurt so bad," the 25-year-old added. ' Chris Brown, Demetrius Pinder, Michael Mathieu and Ramon Miller sped home in a time of 2 minutes 56.72 seconds to take the win. Bryshon Nellum, Joshua Mance, Tony McQuay and Angelo Taylor claimed silver for a relatively weak USA team with a time of 2:57.05, ending a run of seven successive golds in the event.
