So sad for Roger. I have watched his career from the moment he beat Sampras at Wimbledon and was really hoping he could add the individual gold. The irony of a Brit winning at Wimbledon but not winning Wimbledon is fantastic though.

Lol... I have to agree. It seemed surreal for him to be beating Federer on Centre Court in a final just a bare month after losing to him in one! It was as if we had got stuck in some weird time-lapse alternative universe where the Wimbledon final was being played again today and Murray won this time in straights! A re-run of history with a different ending this time!

Congratulations to Andy and commiserations to Roger. I know how much both of them wanted this gold medal.

TENNIS star Novak Djokovic was so upset after missing out on a medal at the London Games that he cut his racquets into pieces with a saw.

Head of the Serbian Olympic Committee Vlade Divac told Vesti Online the Djokovic made a personal apology for his performance.

“I never saw anyone have such energy to fight for a medal for Serbia. It is contagious. After the match I came to (Djokovic). You know what he was doing? He was so miserable, he was cutting up his racquets with a saw," Divac told Vesti Online.

"That is not someone who doesn’t care about the result. His main goals were Roland Garros and the Olympic Games. He said, ‘Vlade, I’m sorry.’ I told him, ‘You don’t have to apologise for anything, you’re a champion and always will be.’”

Andy Murray won the gold medal while Roger Federer grabbed silver and Juan Martin Del Potro took home bronze.

Dogs receive Olympic balls donation

Tennis balls hit by Andy Murray, Roger Federer and the Williams sisters during their London 2012 matches have been donated to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.

Hundreds of balls used during the Olympic tennis games have been presented to the charity by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Locog).

Battersea operations manager Philip Heron said: "We can't wait to see our dogs eyes light up at the sight of all these tennis balls. To play fetch with the balls that led to Andy Murray's gold medal victory is a real honour. This generous gift from Locog will give Battersea's homeless dogs hours of enjoyment and will offer our animals their own special legacy from the London 2012 Games."

During the Olympics, Battersea named dogs and cats after every gold-medal winning athlete including a Jack Russell called Murray. It will carry on the honour with the Paralympics GB gold medalists.

Julie Duffus, venues sustainability manager at Locog, said: "It's wonderful that the 2012 Olympic legacy will now bring joy to the dogs at Battersea. Locog is proud to support Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, and we hope that Murray and all the dogs that have been named after Team GB gold medallists will now get a chance to play with the Olympic tennis balls during their stay at the home."
