The Eights used to be the Ultimate race in the regatta...Especially during the Cold War Era. The two global demographs played on the race something wicked. Superpower stuff...Untill 1972 when little old New Zealand fended off all those 'evil' USSR clones to win gold!

Really, both mens and womans should still be the last races...But rowing itself seems to have moved towards anything Twos and Fours...YThat and the fact you have sometimes got to meld together eight egos to work as a team and that is really hard for the likes of Rowing NZ.

Semifinals takes place for the following events:

- Women's Single Sculls;

- Men's Four;

- Women's Lightweight Double Sculls; and,
