DannyelBrazil
Sad note was crowd booing the Japanese athletes in the podium. Quickly the boos got less audible and some applause was heard... To boo referees because of the change, it's okay... But the Japanese athletes have nothing to do with the decision.
Guardian
Today, July 31, sees the women's teams compete for Olympic medals. The countries that are represented are of the following: Canada, China, the host Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Romania, Russia, and the United States. Faster
Although that doesn't tell the whole story. Britain had won the Silver until the Japanese whinged about 4th place and put in an appeal which took them to 2nd. Completely unfair to have just one routine re-judged - if they're questioning the judges on one routine that brings their judgement on all routines into question. The most frustrating thing is the Brits have been helping the Japanese in their training! If the officials didn't see something, they wouldn't have changed it. It is one of the improvements over the system since 2004 when there couldn't be this kind of video review. And the point change was I believe 0.5ish. 0.3 increase for the no-fall and 0.2 increase for difficultly. The difference between the 3 teams before the inquiry was less then 0.25. The entire competition was a complete comedy of errors from the Japanese, Americans, Russians and Germans.
Athensfan
On the other hand, who's to say Wieber will be as prominent as she is now four years later in Rio De Janeiro? How about Shawn Johnson, Nastia Liukin, Chellsie Memmel, Alicia Sacramone and Bridget Sloan. All attempted to return. None succeeded, demonstrating both the intensity of the competition in the US and the very short life of a gymnastics career -- especially where an all-around we like Wieber is concerned. This was her chance. The team competition was an absolute travesty for the American men. Total meltdown. Unmitigated disaster. Horrifying.

baron-pierreIV
I've heard that tonight. Apparently they came over to see what we were doing in our programme and been taking videos? WTF? Wouldn't see that happening in the cycling. Remarkable that the upgrade on his awful dismount just happened to bump them back into silver when most commenting said that it would be .3 or .4 or something. Still we can't complain as we still got a medal - fel sorry for Ukraine in the end because they don't get much funding apparently and the medal would have meant the world to them. I know...what drama unfolded in the men's Team Finals. Congrats, Brits. U're still 3rd in the world!! The Ukranians didn't deserve a medal. Their uniforms were an insult and assault to good taste. To boo referees because of the change, it's okay... But the Japanese athletes have nothing to do with the decision. I diidn't think they were booed at all really on the podium. The athletes though had everything to do with the decision by appealing it - indeed I suspect had they got Bronze they wouldn't have appealed it. BethnalGreen
Congratulation to the GB men! Very exciting for the home team to rise to the occasion. They have been rising to the occasion for a while to be honest - it's just most people haven't seen it. Britain recently became European Champions so it is no fluke. It says something about the UK gymnastics programme when the Japanese come over and want to train with you and make notes! I'm pleased that the rest of the country has now noticed them though
Brekkie Boy
Just a shame the swimmers who've really improved on the world stage in the last four years aren't really reaching their potential in the pool.

Texas
An individual gold medal and Gabby Douglas could easily be one of the faces of Team USA heading into Rio, along with Swimmer Missy Franklin.

"teens" - I strongly question that. I am surprised though the banning of under 16s hasn't been challenged considering other sports (notably diving) allow it and we've had a ridiculous situation where banning drug cheats has been ruled unlawful. NY20??
One / some of the Chinese gymnasts from four years ago are back, right? I remember their faces. Yeah, well, they still look prepubescent, which I think says more about people's quick ability to claim "cheat!" than it does about the actual gymnasts. Also, that vault by Maroney was e v e r y t h i n g. Ohmygod. She is amazing, she is my fave. Glad they won!

Athensfan
Maroney should've gotten 16.5 on that vault. Full-stop. What are those judges smoking? Show me ANYTHING that was wrong with it. I'm sorry but it was PERFECT. That's all there is to it. What could possibly have been improved? Perfect form. Stratospheric flight. Full rotation. Stuck landing totally upright. There simply wasn't a flaw. Judges got it WRONG.

Alexjc
I don't usually watch Gymnastics - But since it was on I was soon hooked in and it got really tense towards the end especially when Uchimura stubled ever so slightly on the floor. Thoroughly enjoyable...Thats what the Olympics are about! Congrats to Japan, Germany, and USA.
