Now that the road races have concluded, it is time to shift the focus toward the velodrome. The sprint events are here! August 2 sees that Olympic medals are handed out in the men's and women's team sprint events. Also, there is a qualifying round for the men's team pursuit event.

The UCI not really doing the sport any favours at all, firstly with ripping up the programme, then limiting it to one rider per nation - and now they're in danger of making the same mistake with the Olympics as they did with the World Championships earlier this years when the outcome of races seemed to be more often dependent on the views of the judges than the result on the track. The Germans may have been happy today to get promoted but when they look back at their "winning moment" and the VT shows they lost it's not going to be that satisfying.

'We were saying if we have a bad start, we need to crash to get a restart. I just crashed, I did it on purpose to get a restart, just to have the fastest ride. I did it. So it was all planned, really.'

Utter disgrace!

The IOC MUST disqualify the GB team

This is even worse than the badminton tanking

Yes I don't agree with the changes to the track programme. Removing the individual pursuit was a mistake as well. Not cool

I just watched the team pursuit tonight and saw a couple races where 1 of the riders for some reason stopped racing, and the team finished with just 3 riders. That happened twice. What is the reason for a rider dropping out?

It's normal. The time is counted at the end when the third rider crosses the line. The fourth isn't important.
