paul
That is a beautiful color choice. ..check out the backdrop in Rols post, they did recover the rigging section with a new look panel but it has those semicircle cutouts now to lessen the effects of wind. I mean come on guys, it's the Olympics build a frickin' temporary solid structure that can withstand the weather. There are so many thing in that picture that just look crazy-town. Best speculation seems to be that, because it's outdoors, and the diving pool temperature is kept warmer than the pools for energetic swimming, it's more prone to algae. Sir Rols
I thought the water had been put through all the tests and passed as properly chlorinated and safe for use. Initially, the OCOG apparently did suggest it had been done to "reduce glare" though I believe that's since been retracted. i wouldn't be surprised if it is dye put in by a local as a joke or patriotic gesture. baron-pierreIV
At least Atlanta 1996 never attempted to use the Centennial Green other than on its banners!!

Barcelona diving pool was also outdoors yet I don't remember the same thing happened back then. Would it be safe to assume they lied to us when they said they carried out all those tests and the pool was alright?
Ikarus360
Watching Volleyball's Mexico vs Italy right now at Maracanazinho. There are obvious issues with the look near the field. You can tell there isn't a good continuity with the frames, some pieces look like they're repeating like tiles one after another.
Sir Rols
TBH, the look is growing on me now. It'll never be one of the all time greats, it's not particularly ground breaking, but I think we go into a games with expectations set high and a too critical eye for anything that isn't just wow. I think Rio's is perfectly all-right and distinctive enough. Caught the beginning of the golf last night - nice looking course, But then, outdoor events are often my favourite venues at any games - and not for the decorations. DarJoLe
The velodrome was looking excellent last night, very sharp.
Dylanlip
The emptiness of the Athletics Stadium is just sad.... not to mention the ugly bare concrete still there. It feels like some random Diamond League meet. No atmosphere at all. If this is the norm for the night sessions as well.....
Rob2012
I think we were a bit spoilt in London (and Beijing irrc) with full morning sessions. This feels much more like Athens and the dreadful weather isn't helping either. Nevertheless, it's still a lot emptier than I was expecting. I expect it'll be much more full in the evening. Dylanlip
So the green pool really ISN'T safe after all. Did they send the divers in KNOWING THIS?

Rob2012
Yep. I was wrong. Appalling attendance tonight. 20% full at best. Edited August 12, 2016 by Rob.
phandrosis
I'm not sure if anyone has answered this on any other topic, but why is attendance at the venues in general so poor? Is there any one reason or is it a combination of several?

This is really sad. The attendance has been pretty good all week at the marquee events, but it's shocking to see the stadium more than half empty for track. Indeed, it also puts into perspective London's own "empty seats" scandal which dominated the press for the first few days. This was mostly the odd block, not virtually whole stadiums, as we've often seen at Rio. And the athletics attendance is a huge contrast. Dylanlip
Quote This is a tennis event. Please be fair and respect both players. Had to be stated outright? Would've hoped that was understood by Day 8.
Barcelona_'92
Attendance at Olympic Stadium was much better at the morning session today. I'd say it was about 80% full. We'll see if this level of attendance continues for the rest of the week or if there is only good attendance at sessions in which Bolt competes. Ikarus360
A bit more attendance than the first days, but still apalling. I haven't seen such empty seats for athletics since Athens. I seriously hope we don't see something like this again in Tokyo. This might be a bit nitpicking but while the stadium has a decent capacity, it doesn't really screams "Olympic" to me. Looks more like an IAAF tournament or the European Athletic Championships venue. And the lack of an Olympic flame in an athletics stadium is something most of us are not used to.
