2012 Team New Zealand News

Recommended Posts

Rowing was EXPECTED to achieve their targets...which they did. Although they would've loved to have a Fours in there.

Valerie did get a medal...But and in her words, didn't achieve.

Nick Willis burn't himself out in the semis. But I hope he inspires youngsters to hit the track...

Overall the future looks bright for Glasgow and Rio.

I think the future is looking good as well. We need to keep on building on what we have achieved to ensure that never again we experience a games like those in Sydney!

Definitely a cliffhanger. We nearly did it and rolled the world number one. Now will play off for Bronze. The girls really deserve that!

In other news we are guaranteed a Medal in the womens 470 who are tied with GBR in the Gold Medal position.

KIWI HOUSE CLOSED DUE TO A GAS LEAK FIRE IN THE BBQ AREA.

Extensive damage to the outdoor area was caused by a spectacular explosion causing the immediate evacuation of the building.

No injuries have been reported.

No...It was a ruptured gas connection. I doubt if anyone was drunk...we haven't won any Gold since the Rowing finished...And considering the last two days of results, Kiwi House is not as full since.

A bronze...anywhere...Will give us the NZOC quota predicted in July.

Hang in there 470s crew!

Go BMXers.

The NZOC etc wanted 10 medals. We have already achieved that! The 470's wil take us to 11 medals.

You see if you got Gen Xers onto the board of the NZOC, we would have gone for 20, even if most were bronze. Sometimes unrealistic goals need to be set! Technically this is our last 'easy' homegames Olympics for a VERY long time. Let's set the bar higher...And try to share the funding around a bit more. Rugby's had its turn

Consolidate and 'cluster' training facilities...Christchurch has a perfect opportunity for the South, while Hamilton could provide for the North and Palmerston for Central.

When you talk of Home games - how did Sydney work out for us - a disaster! Not sure on the home games theory.

I agree that we should be setting the bar higher and focus funding more on Olympic Sports. While rugby will always be important for New Zealanders there is more to life than rugby!

This is a good stepping stone, but we must build and do better!

Of course it was a disaster! Bolger and his cronies were too busy focussing on the ultimate NZ sporting event to end the century...The recession busting Americas Cup!

Sydney was a gimmie totally blown...and the learnings taken on board.

These 2012 games are the climax of those learnings...The government needs to look at how China/USA/UK/Aus funds their programs as they are all so different from each other, yet successful. We need to strike a ballance that suits all. Some of those 'obscure' sports NZ could easly medal in.

Brent Newdick is doing great in the decath'. Maintaining his middle of table ranking...1500m really killing all of them, to beat time. In at 5th place. A good effort for the future...Another Simon Poleman- in athletics of course! Definatly a medal in Glasgow.

12th place is a fantastic result for Brent. A fantastic result that was above expectations!

Hopefully they may be a couple of Golds with the 470 Womens and the Womens K1 200 splash & dash...Very much a gold potential.

My personal feelings on BMX are mixed...But hey, anything for a medal!

A fantastic GOLD for New Zealand!!! First Gold in Sailing (outside of board sailing and RSX) since 1984!

In terms of GOLD Medals New Zealand now has four in London which is now second only to 1984 when we won 8 Gold.
