Ikarus360
A tad disappointing cauldron lightning (although a very emotional music), but overall it was a spectacular show. After Igor Krutoy work in the 2011 Winter Asiad I knew he would also do a great show. (I'm looking forward for the OST of this XD) I wonder if Krutoy will have some role in the Sochi ceremonies. I would like him to compose some music score for it at least
Iceman
Just finished watching the ESPN stream and is it just me, or does the set they used in the ceremony look like the one U2 used in the 360 tour?
Ikarus360
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6cxp4yhv2s First 40 minutes of the ceremony for those who missed it. The rest will be updated soon. I hope someone puts a version without comments since this video had very annoying ones =_=

I would like him to compose some music score for it at least I guess Krutoy is like Russia's Vangelis/Andrew Lloyd Webber -- being a special Events producer and using his own compositions too. Must be related to Vladimir Putin! Strange how they skipped over Stalin and Lenin and post-fall Federation leaders.
Ikarus360
^^ There were references to WWII aka Great Patriotic War, as well for the October Revolution/Civil War, though
Ikarus360
I'm not sure if it's permitted to do this, but here's a torrent to download the whole ceremony in HD (it's very heavy, though, 18 GB) http://rutor.org/torrent/292070/hhvii-letnjaja-universiada-kazan-ceremonija-otkrytija-2013-hdtv-1080i
baron-pierreIV
They used every trick in the book except: - fog and smoke effects over the lake - laser lights; - black lighting (which would've been great for one or 2 sequences); and - change of color or lighting effects under the water. Something like the fire and embedded stars in the Salt Lake ice. Also, and I think it will be a trend continuing with Sochi and 2018, the Russians always use EVERY and, I repeat, every ethnic folk costume in their portfolio (probably of over 500 designs) -- so much so it becomes overkill already. And the glaring contrast between the under-use of the water in Athens and over-use here.
deawebo
Still, Kazan is doing great... Kazan Arena is one of the most stutting stadiums in the world, and one of the best venues in Universiades! Can't wait for Sochi
LinkParkFn
I'm a little steamed that no one from KU was chosen to compete at the Games, all the while KSTATE's women's volleyball team is representing the U.S, and their former men's basketball coach Frank Martin is an assistant on the U.S. men's team. Even on the international stage, Kansas Jayhawks get screwed and KSTATE Wildcats reap glory, and I'm sick of it.

intoronto
Told ya. Russia is going to end up #1 or #2 in Sochi. Prolly not in Sochi. Russia sent its top athletes in almost every sport at the Universiade, unlike all other countries.

baron-pierreIV
Aren't all closing ceremonies? Actually, LA, Albertville, Barcelona, Lillehammer and Atlanta weren't. I was hoping this one wouldn't. Maybe it would buck the trend. Hope springs eternal.
baron-pierreIV
Uh-oh. Kazan 2013 medals are cheap and perishable. They break apart when dropped. They are being recalled. http://en.ria.ru/sports/20130709/182144203/All-3014-Medals-Recalled-at-World-University-Games---Report.html Will this happen with the meteorite medals for Sochi?? BTHarner
It's been a bad year for medals. The Universiade medals break and the World Games medals had Word Games inscribed on them.
