So who will declare the tournament open then?

Maybe nobody.... Safe decision IMO

People are truly mad with the delays in the works of infra-structure and Brazilians have been so pessimistic about eveything. Nobody's speech will be welcoming to the audience...

Pikachu And His Pokémon Pals Are Throwing Their Support Behind Japan's World Cup 2014 Campaign

Pocket Monsters join forces with kit maker Adidas

One of the biggest sporting events of 2014 is the World Cup in Brazil, which will attract an audience of millions of fans from all over the globe. That of course means ample opportunities for advertising, and Adidas — which makes the kit of the Japanese national soccer team — has announced that it is teaming up with Pikachu and friends for a special promotion.

So far all we've seen is a couple of promotional images showing various Pokémon in the famous blue shirt of Japan's side, but there's no telling how far this relationship will go — it would be wise to expect branded clothing and other merchandise, but it remains to be seen if this partnership will result in any kind of video game tie-in.

Brazil to set up no-fly zones above FIFA World Cup venues

Rio de Janeiro: Brazil is to set up no-fly zones in airspace surrounding World Cup venues hosting matches during the tournament, it was reported Sunday. The O Globo newspaper reported that authorities would exclude air traffic within a seven-kilometer radius of each stadium on the days when they stage matches.

The decisions will cause disruption at eight airports near World Cup stadia that fall within or are near to the exclusion zones. At least 805 flights will be cancelled because of the move while a further 150 will be rerouted, disrupting travel for around 16,000 passengers on Brazilian carriers such as Gol, TAM, Avianca and Azul, O Globo reported.

Host cities affected by the move include Rio, Belo Horizonte, Cuiaba, Manaus, Fortaleza, Recife, Salvador and Curitiba. Only military aircraft will be allowed within the exclusion zones, the report said. The no-fly zones will operate differently depending on each venue.

For the opening match of the tournament at Sao Paulo's Itaquerao Stadium, when Brazil faces Croatia, the exclusion zone will be in force for three hours before kick-off and four hours after the final whistle. A similar exclusion zone would be set up on the day of the final at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro.

The International Airports of Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte will be sent to private sector next March 31st. That's maybe the reason the Government company for Airports, Infraero, slowed down a lot the pace of the refurbshments of both... Stupid Brazil bureaucracy...

FIFA and Sony Music Entertainment have announced today that the official anthem of the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ in Brazil, which is entitled “Dar um Jeito (We Will Find A Way)”, will be performed at the tournament’s closing ceremony in Rio de Janeiro by Carlos Santana, Wyclef, Avicii and Alexandre Pires.

As the fourth piece to be added to the tournament’s official music programme, “Dar um Jeito (We Will Find A Way)” will form part of the official 2014 FIFA World Cup™ Album alongside the Official Song by Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte as well as the SuperSong winning track to be recorded by Ricky Martin and the Official Mascot Song which was released in 2012 by Brazilian singer Arlindo Cruz.

FIFA’s Marketing Director Thierry Weil said; “It is great to see another impressive group of artists join the official music programme of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. FIFA and Sony have been working hard in developing an album that brings the sounds of Brazil to life through a variety of creative tracks. Santana, Wyclef, Avicii and Alexandre Pires are true musical icons and I am thrilled they will be part of the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ closing ceremony.”

Carlos Santana said of the project “It is an honour to take part in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and have “Dar um Jeito (We Will Find A Way”) selected as the Anthem. Along with my brothers, Wyclef, Avicii and Alexandre Pires, we look forward to performing the song in Rio de Janeiro in July and sharing this message of light and hope on the FIFA World Cup stage.”

Not only have some of the greatest musicians in the world collaborated on the song, but it will be produced by a team that includes two-time Grammy-nominated Ash Pournouri. Describing the track, Pournouri said, “In Portuguese Dar Um Jeito means to find a way around obstacles and impossibilities. With this track, we wanted to send a message of optimism and opportunity with the music and the words.”
