they should reclad the exterior of maracana stadium to make it look batter and different from the existing nowadays :)

the facade is declared a heritage site... You can only work in the roof and inside the stadium. No changes can be done in the exterior...

More about Salvador, to our beloved friend Intoronto

Some people who never been to Salvador think those small houses behind the stadium are some favela-like neighbourhood, but those are not...

People in Skyscrapercity showed lots of pics of that area...

Only middle-class chaotic urbanistic area, like most of Salvador...

Apart of the ugly neighbourhoods, what a stadium!

I didn't even think that was a favela... Just that it looks so ugly...

IMO, Sao Paulo's stadium have a uglier neighbourhood around...

But I can't talk much about Salvador, never been there, and probably you already been...

(^) I disagree the stadium is integrated with the city almost. Its a perfect stadium.

I agree with you. Specially that lake on one side of the stadium looks nice (that open side)

And the architects of the Salvador Stadium coming from my hometown. :D

The exterior can be upgraded (even placing glass as Victor pointed), but the ramps and the "7"-like columns can not be changed at all.

Maracana exterior is considered a heritage site.

Well, it's a football-mad country, our temple/national site, is somehow Maracana...

NY Times once said: it's the only country where the soul is a stadium... And somehow, it's true.

Indeed, Maracana is the place where Brazilian people/society, as nation, suffered its most painful defeat ever: a match Uruguay won 2-1 over us in the 1950 World Cup...

Yes, for a country with very few international wars in their history, this is THE history of our people.

PS: Loved your sig too!
