I´m interested I knew the stadiums in Natal, Cuiaba and Manaus wouldn't have a large capacity, but they seem pretty small to me. Smaller than I thought they would be. Natal stadium is indeed small, with 32000 seats. The capacity will be increased to 42000 with temporary seats behind the goals and in the middle part around the stadium. Tony E Loves Architecture Posted December 15, 2013 Report Share Posted December 15, 2013 My Personal Opinion, my Favorite Stadiums of the 2014 World Cup are The Arena Pantanal in Cuiaba, The Arena Das Dunas in Natal and The Arena Amazonia in Manaus. A Quick Question as well - The Arena Pernambuco in Recife, I know why them gaps are there in the Corners but where do they lead to? They don't seem to lead to anywhere? No offence Danny, but something must be very wrong I 100 per cent agree with you Yoshi, Health and Safety is number 1 priority, nothing is worse than a loss of life and as I said, I don't usually like seeing Construction stopped but this just like Sao Paulo Stadium is an exception because of loss of life. The Key is 1) Thorough Investigation into how and why it happened and 2) How can we prevent this from happening again. Look at the bigger picture. Tony, I guess you'll have to get used to me. I was being facetious. Of course, work has to stop temporarily and an investigation made. I think that goes without saying! It was only in Imelda Marcos' building of her Film Center building in 1981 in Manila when several workers were killed in a collapse, but because they were on a tight deadline, they just included the bodies in the foundation and work went full-speed ahead. It is not clear when the contractors will resume work.Half of the 12 stadiums being built for the tournament are behind schedule.The workers at Arena Amazonia say pressure to finish the construction is affecting their safety."The rating for safety in the building site is zero. The distribution of new uniforms is very bureaucratic and we're under constant pressure to work," builder Jose Aristoteles de Souza Filho told the Brazilian news website G1.Union leaders suggested the industrial action could be ended on Tuesday but work at high sectors of the stadium remains banned by a court order.Prosecutors had demanded the suspension until contracting firm Andrade Gutierrez presented a detailed report on the site's safety conditions.Working conditions were "unacceptably dangerous" and the contractors could be fined, the prosecutors said in their petition."The Public Prosecutor's Office cannot allow the urgency of finishing construction for the 2014 World Cup to be at the cost of the life and wellbeing of those working on it."A team of experts inspected the building site on Monday and is expected to produce a detailed report about the safety precautions.The specialists are also reportedly looking into the working procedures at the site.Marcleudo de Melo Ferreira, 22, died in a hospital in Manaus after the fall.Hours later, another worker died of a heart attack at a nearby site. Of course only Arena Das Dunas in Natal and Estadio Beira-Rio in Porto Alegre have a realistic chance of completing for end of year but the others will be ready for Test Events. Manaus = Steel Roof Structure in place, just Membrane Installation to go and more Seats and Pitch Growth. Sao Paulo = The Rest of Roof and Seats. Cuiaba = Grass and Tree Installation in Corners and Roof Cover. Curitiba = Roof Membrane and Pitch. Natal = Rest of Roof Cover and Pitch. Porto Alegre = Roof Membrane Installation and Top Tier Seats. Tony E Loves Architecture Posted December 16, 2013 Report Share Posted December 16, 2013 A construction worker died at the site of the Arena Amazonia in Manaus on Saturday, prompting a labour court to order a halt to all work being conducted high above ground until they are satisfied that conditions are safe. England are set to kick off their Group D campaign at the stadium on June 14 against Italy and the tragedy is the latest in a series of setbacks for organisers. The state government's unit responsible for overseeing the construction is confident though that the suspension will be lifted soon. A statement from the Amazonas state government read: "During the day on Saturday and Sunday the Amazon state government, through the project management unit of the World Cup, was at the construction site of the Arena Amazonia watching the work performed on site after the fatality occurred early on Saturday. "Around noon on Sunday we took note of the notification of the Labour Court for the immediate partial stoppage of work. The decision should be applied to activities (carried out at) height, notably cover mounting and on the facade of the stadium. "The decision was immediately acted upon by (construction company Andrade Gutierrez) and it is taking the appropriate measures for the full resumption of work. Other services will continue normally, starting from Monday." The Arena Amazonia is also due to host three other matches at next summer's finals. The death in Manaus brings the number of workers killed during construction of World Cup venues to five, including two who died last month when a crane collapsed at the Itaquera Arena in Sao Paulo, which is to hold the opening ceremony and first match of the finals between Brazil and Croatia. FIFA has said the Sao Paulo stadium will not be completed until mid-April now, less than two months before the start of the tournament. The world governing body extended its sympathies after the latest death. A statement said: "FIFA and the local organising committee (LOC) learnt of the death of the worker on Saturday at the Arena Amazonia site with great sadness. "We would like to send our most sincere condolences to his family, relatives, colleagues and friends."
