I agree with the poster before who said it's stunning. I concur. No GMP or any foreign company. The stadium was designed by Castro Mello Arquitetos from Brasilia, actually, the son of the designer of the first stadium, who made the project for the World Cup. http://www.castromello.com.br/ Brasilia National Stadium received some nice awards and it's the cover of AutoCAD software box this year! What a beauty - it looks so modern now, you wouldn't believe that it's a stadium that is already 63 years old (like my father ). You only recognise it by the very low ceilings inside the stadium - one builds much more airy and light-flooded buildings these days. Maracana probably is not the right stadium for claustrophobics then, I suppose. And the lighting of the roof is very beautiful as well - and interesting, because it could be already the lighting also for the Olympic ceremonies. The red and blue lighting above very much reminds me of the red-white-and-blue lighting London used at parts of its opening ceremony (I believe, when they hoisted the Union Jack or when Team UK entered the stadium). However, Maracana now truly is a very dignified place to stage not only Confed Cup and World Cup matches, but also to welcome the world for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic opening and closing ceremonies.
