Stadium progress

I believe the Brasila stadium was designed by German architecture firm GMP -- famous for their brilliant stadiums. I agree with the poster before who said it's stunning. I concur.

No GMP or any foreign company.

The stadium was designed by Castro Mello Arquitetos from Brasilia, actually, the son of the designer of the first stadium, who made the project for the World Cup.

Brasilia National Stadium received some nice awards and it's the cover of AutoCAD software box this year!

The facade of Arena Pernambuco is almost ready. During the night it will have an effect similar to Alianz Arena, changing its color.

According to the German wikipedia article about the stadium, only the roof and the facade with all those pillars was designed by GMP and SBP (another German architecture firm). The stands were designed by Castro Mello Arquitetos of São Paulo: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Est%C3%A1dio_Nacional_de_Bras%C3%ADlia

Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador, however, was completely designed by German architects Schulitz + Partner. They are based in Brunswick, the city in Lower Saxony where I lived for the past four years. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arena_Fonte_Nova

Therefore, I'm afraid I have to correct you. GMP also mentions the stadium as one of its projects on its website: http://www.gmp-architekten.de/projekte/estadio-nacional-brasilia-nationalstadion.html

So it's a shared project between Castro Mello and GMP.

Whoa! What a beauty - it looks so modern now, you wouldn't believe that it's a stadium that is already 63 years old (like my father ;)). You only recognise it by the very low ceilings inside the stadium - one builds much more airy and light-flooded buildings these days. Maracana probably is not the right stadium for claustrophobics then, I suppose. ;)

And the lighting of the roof is very beautiful as well - and interesting, because it could be already the lighting also for the Olympic ceremonies. The red and blue lighting above very much reminds me of the red-white-and-blue lighting London used at parts of its opening ceremony (I believe, when they hoisted the Union Jack or when Team UK entered the stadium). However, Maracana now truly is a very dignified place to stage not only Confed Cup and World Cup matches, but also to welcome the world for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic opening and closing ceremonies.

So, we got the information corrected! :)

Yes :) and of course, the completion of facade and surroundings.

Brasília finished the installation of the seats. There are just some adjustments left until the opening match next week.

Valcke warns Sao Paulo saying that he could take away the World Cup matches from Sao Paulo..

http://www.worldcupofjoe.com/1/post/2013/05/could-so-paulo-lose-the-world-cup.html

If i spam you guys too much with my blogposts, please say so. i hate to be a spammer.

This kind of news you don't see on the english/US press:
Jerome Valcke about preparations in Brazil:
"It’s really good to think that the national teams in the FIFA Confederations Cup will be playing here very soon, in fantastic stadiums like the ones in Brasilia and Rio de Janeiro, which I visited on this trip through Brazil. In two weeks’ time the first team coming to take part in the FIFA Confederations Cup will arrive, and the others will come soon afterwards. We’re moving into competition time."
"We’ve sold more than 76 per cent of tickets, which is a fantastic response from Brazilian fans and makes it one of the best-organised FIFA Confederations Cups in the competition’s history. From 1 June fans will have the opportunity to acquire the remaining tickets. The record for sales for a FIFA Confederations Cup is 86 per cent, from Germany 2005, and I believe that could be beaten."
