gotosy
Brazil unveils first stadium for 2014 World Cup The Castelao Arena in the northeastern Brazilian city of Fortaleza became the first stadium to be inaugurated for the 2014 World Cup finals on Sunday. Along with the Mineirao in Belo Horizonte, to be opened on December 21, they are the only stadiums to meet the December 2012 deadline set originally for next year's Confederations Cup, a World Cup finals dress rehearsal. President Dilma Rousseff attended the opening ceremony at the Castelao, which has been completely refurbished at a cost of 518.6 million Brazilian reals ($249.18 million) with a capacity for 67,000. gotosy
Mineirao construction completed 12/21/2012 Brazil, Minas Gerais: December 21, 2012: This Friday the 21st, the construction completion ceremony for the Governador Magalhães Pinto Stadium, Mineirão, will be held. The stadium, which was renovated for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, will be one of the Rio 2016™ Olympic Games football headquarters. The Mineirão closed for two and a half years and is ready right on time. Thanks to the renovation, the stadium counts 64 thousand seats, 90 box seats, a restaurant with a view of the field and VIP area lounges. The parking area counts 2.8 thousand spaces and the press area has a 3 thousand journalist capacity. Now, the stadium has an esplanade, an 80 thousand m2 outdoor area with a 65 thousand person capacity around the stadium. It will be one of the great public spaces in Belo Horizonte, a suspended park with seven thousand m2 for commercial activities, with restaurants, bars and shops. Among the amenities of the New Mineirão is the roof equipped with technology to capture solar energy and transform it into electricity. In addition, rainwater is reused. The stadium also counts a six million litre reservoir, able to supply part of the Mineirão for three months. Are the other three Confederations Cup stadiums also on schedule or are there problems with some? With the other three i mean the three stadiums that aren't finished yet. So Brasilia, Recife and Rio. DannyelBrazil
I'm a bit worried with Maracana too... The big lift of the roof didn't start yet... This is really not good.
Bezzi
Danyel, the big lift has begun (since december 19) and there have been considerable advances on the roof. The cables are already in the final height and almost all of those diamond shaped pieces which were in the field have been installed. I think the problem is that the press isn't following the progress of the works.
