Kenadian
Once upon a time, Africa had a bid for the Summer Olympics: Cape Town 2004. And a wonderful logo, too! So, just wondering if anyone has any information on this interesting but unsuccessful proposal.
Gangwon
That IS a nice logo. I just hope that when South Africa hosts, it's with Cape Town and not Durban.
Sir Rols
Actually, I'm used to Durban now. And at least they've got a main stadium in place and their weather's a bit more conducive to timing than Cape Town. Back to ken's question - I used to work with a guy (South African who'd gone to Australia) who got recruited as the Cape Town 2004 bid's communications director. They actually hired quite a few Aussies in the aftermath of Sydney's 2000's winning bid - I guess we were sen then as having the golden bidding touch. And, if memory serves me right, wasn't it one of the Oz IOC members, Coates I think, who went over to advise them on which city to put forward (that was when they were still deciding between CT, Jo-Burg or Durbs)? I think the 2004 race was a classic one for bid logos. I liked all of them:
