baron-pierreIV
Although it's over anyways, what would it be a bargain for? Giving it to the National Sports Museum here in Melbourne (inside the iconic MCG) and giving it as a consolation for them not having a '52 one or even one of it's replicas? Whakindda question is "what would it be a bargain for"?? Do you think everything revolves around Melbourne? U're just as bad as those Ontarions who think Toronto is the center of the world -- which it isn't.

I merely mentioned Melbourne because they have the Olympic Torch collection in the National Sports Museum, only lacking Helsinki 1952 of course. They could use this one as a consolation! And a bargain for/from what anyways? A games that never was?

baron-pierreIV
More of a centRE of the world than Reno will ever be. Well, who ever made a claim that Reno (or more realistically) Tahoe would be? Just because I happened to like the idea of a Tahoe/Reno bid doesn't mean I think it's the center of the world. But if u think it will rival Toronto, then I guess more power to Reno.

Mexico 1968
I bought it in a flea market in Mexico City for $ 4,000 MXN (around $ 308,90 US dollars) As you can see a similar torch was carried swimming by athletes in the City of Veracruz, Mexico
baron-pierreIV
Do you know how many of that design were made? Or for that matter, how many torches in all for Mexico 1968 were manufactured?
olympiaki-agones
There were designed three different styles: The one (silver) you can see above used for certain events (no clue how exactly were manufactured), a black one with the same design and very rare (no more than 20 manufactured) and the one used to light the cauldron (less than 200 torches). Sorry, I meant around 2000 with the common design.
Olympic Fan Darcy
Just returned from Sydney. Just curious if this type of Olympic torch in the case is worth less than just a normal torch Seems that these tend to sell lower on eBay then the ones not in a box? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Sydney-2000-Olympic-torch-numbered-edition-includes-Certificate-of-Authenticity-/121348499552?pt=AU_Summer_Winter_Games_Memorabilia&hash=item1c40ef2860&_uhb=1 $725 Whereas this sold for $3000? And it says it comes in it's original cardboard packaging? What's that look like? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Sydney-2000-Olympic-Games-Torch-For-Sale-brand-new-/131168380988?pt=AU_Summer_Winter_Games_Memorabilia&hash=item1e8a3ea83c&_uhb=1 I'm just curious, cause i'm contemplating purchasing a torch. Lord David
^^ The first torch you show us is the commemorative torch sold to the public for the 2000 Olympics. It has the same dimensions of the official torch (unlike other commemorative torches which are 3/4 or 1/2 size) but is obvious in the way it's cut out to show the inside (as to distinguish it from a once functional real torch), and therefore unusable. It already has it's own frame mount with the obvious descriptions on design and so forth. The other one is the real deal. So the question is, do you want a commemorative one or a real one? I have the Torino 2006 and Athens 2004 ones, both real, as they didn't make any commemorative torches.
Olympic Fan Darcy
What do you think is better? And is there a stand or something for the real thing? I'm assuming they're separate.

Olympic Fan Darcy
I was interested when it was below half the price of normal torches but once it got up to $1000 it got back to the nah who cares range.

That was always going to happen, once competitive bidding got started; if anything it's a little surprising that the bids didn't double up in the last minute (probably due to the corrosion, which will be hard to hide completely). Besides, there might have been at least 3,000 of the Seoul 1988 torches. So far, the exact # of 1988 torches made, has not surfaced.

Lord David
I could have gotten a Samaranch signed Barcelona 1992 torch a few months ago for 2,500. The seller was from the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. She worked as a volunteer for the Barcelona games, must have acquired one and gotten him to sign it. Sigh. She reconsidered the offer. Why post it on Gumtree if you aren't ready to part with it?
