paul92
Oh I love this petal thing - even though I'm not quite sure what it is. And team GB will have the big centre of the torch...or something ... What about the water wheel!! I want ma water wheel!
templeryan
Does anyone know where the kids with the petals are going? Nope, camera is only focusing on teams emerging. Not got a clue where they're going. Center of stadium? Tor?
Filipe_Golias
So we'll have a huge blazing rose as the cauldron? Appropriate!
templeryan
I think the bit with Beckham was pre filmed not live, my bet is on the copper petals being assembled to form part of the cauldron. He said a 'significant role' and lighting the cauldron is the only significant role left other than the speeches. The bit with Beckham was practically live! The speedboat went through Tower Bridge at about 9:40pm, less than an hour ago.
londonbound
They are putting all the flags up on the Tor. So the tor is out. It has to be the center.
Kenadian
Are the 'petal children' lining the Tor? Or are those just the flag bearers?
JimmyJoe
The flags are going on the tor as are the petals!!!!!
tractarian
These copper "petals" that each team is carrying look a lot like the tickets...they have to make up the cauldron. Everything's coming together. The cauldron will be assembled with 204 parts from each of the 204 nations in the center of the stadium. Yes! I guessed it (well, the sort of) My final prediction: Bannister will light the flame remotely from the floor of the stadium, using a swarm of automated quadrocopters, which will then fly up, around, and through the wires at roof level in order to light the cauldron, which looks like the image on the OC tickets and will be located (either suspended or anchored) on top of the roof near the Orbit. paul92
Apparently the Beckham/Tower Bridge thing happened at about 9 when everyone was watching the ceremony. If it was pre recorded it would have been found out.
londonbound
Damn i guess they are flag stands?
JimmyJoe
The bit with Beckham was practically live! The speedboat went through Tower Bridge at about 9:40pm, less than an hour ago. Still pre filmed!
londonbound
They have a tarp in the middle ringed by people it's there. They just showed it when they zoomed out
nu4m
The host of he Australian commentary made mention that the copper vessels being held by the child to the right of the flag bearer will be part of the cauldron
The Hawk
Yep...Australia's commentators say each piece contains the name of the country they come out with. And that they will be used in a "later segment" - looks like we have our cauldron!
templeryan
The water wheel is still there, but in the very centre is something that looks like it's covered. Also, the athletes are being put into the shape of a dove/flower I think!

paul92
A rose would make sense - Very British (well...English) and they are petals. Well they did say the cauldron was an 'event'

nu4m
They have covered up the centre circle. Looks like the cauldron will be beneath it.
paul92
Ahhh this is awesome. Looks like the cauldron will be quite mosaic -ish. And it was right in front of us the whole time... of course
londonbound
So where will it end up? You'll need a lot of gas pipes for 204 different nozzles.
paul92
So where will it end up? You'll need a lot of gas pipes for 204 different nozzles. Huh? The petals would fit into place on the 'centre of the flower' the round bit. (I guess) Maybe it could raise up and attach to the roof above the 'flag hill' That would look good. Kenadian
I almost feel like it will be shaped like a pine cone or a spiky flower.
paul92
I almost feel like it will be shaped like a pine cone or a spiky flower. Nice idea. That would look good - a pine cone completely in flame or just a flame coming out the top. The pine tree isn't exactly British though :/
downtownBLUE
Maybe not a pinecone, but those, uh, whatever-they-ares are really likely to play a part. Look up Heatherwick's work and he's very interested in parts-to-whole relationships in his designs. And if every country has one, it's likely they're going to play a role (at least, I hope they do! That would be fantastic!).
