London 2012 Olympic Cauldron...

Recommended Posts

Well it all fits doesn't it?

Isles of Wonder, regeneration, inspiring, sending a 'message' to the youth of the world, the shards of energy erupting from the stadium.

Heatherwick's most famous structure so far.

The 'cathedral of seeds'.

This is going to eb absolutely amazing.

I love the idea of erupting energy.

All this while, the lighting of the cauldron is the most theatrical. Once it's lit, the flame is just a flame on a cauldron and pretty much constant. Perhaps Heatherwick is turning the post-lit cauldron flame into a piece of theatrics itself too, something that is to marvel at with hypnotic quality.

Makes me think perhaps the stems of little caudrons is a theatric piece itself too. Imagine each stem blowing off flames in a rhythm (ala a flame blower in circus). Or this big blows of flame outside a Melbourne casino, but many of them. A series of successive bursts (never an unlit stem in between bursts) keep the flame burning. And each burst is like sending out a shockwave of Olympic spirit to every corner of the world. It will be really cool :)

There is already a massive caldron outside the Olympic park by the canal that leads to three mills island,

Its made of wood and about the height of nelsons column its massive fully visible from three mills green,

It looks like there will defiantly be more than one cauldron, it raises the question will the real caldron be even bigger.

Just found this article talking about the missing cauldron http://sportsillustr...n.ap/index.html

Good find. AustralianFan should especially read these paragraphs:

There is one tower next to the Olympic Stadium that could solve the mystery - the ArcelorMittal Orbit, a ruby red sculpture of twisted steel that looks like a smashed rollercoaster. Except that Olympic officials say this crazy sightseeing contraption won't be it.

"No, it's not the cauldron," said Peter Tudor, the director of venues for the Olympic Park Legacy Corp. "I would know if there was a massive gas pipe inside."

I wish people would put the Orbit being the cauldron to bed. It's totally unfeasible having a huge gas pipe running up it with a huge flame on top in a steel cauldron, and then expect people to go and up down it in a lift and walk around a room underneath it.

Adrian, I like you a lot and appreciate the modest insight you gave us into your ceremonial segment -- but you get yourself in danger being killed by us if you only give such extremely vagues hints yourself. ;) So you guess the cauldron will be in or on the stadium?

This is why I think this forum seriously needs a spoiler tag. So surprises won't be ruined for those who want to wait until the end.

Not me, though. :P I'm already impacient and want to see details. However i'm not going to force anyone to give them if they don't want or can't.

I agree. Not mentioning The Orbit is ugly like hell. No offense, but I don't get why there are still people who likes that abomination.

Why is one reading this thread, then, if one doesn't want to read anything about the cauldron's location, look or lighting method?

This thread doesn't need spoiler tags. Who doesn't want to know anything beforehand should avoid it. All others should read it. Easy as that.

Anyway: So, Adrian, what's your guess regarding the cauldron's location? At least roughly -- is it inside the stadium?

^^ Yeah but this thread was also done for people trying to give their ideas or guesses or where the cauldron would be, how it would be lit, etc. So far is not filled with OFFICIAL information, which are the real spoilers. :P

But at this stage shortly before the Games, we always had the first hints for the location, look etc. of the cauldron. Afiqnadzir was already a regular visitor in the Beijing 2008 cauldron thread, so he should know that there are spoilers at this stage of time.

I think we can procure that this Ica structure is indeed a caldron if not thee caldron

And will be lit.

Ikea

Again: It's not the cauldron and it won't be lit. It's made of wood and it's also too far away from the stadium!

Sorry, I confused Afiqnadzir with Zainhasan (who was the actual regular in the Beijing 2008 cauldron thread).
