Kuala Lumpur will host IOC meeting in 2015 where 2022 Winter Games city will be selected

LAUSANNE, Switzerland — Kuala Lumpur will host the IOC meeting in 2015 when the host city for the 2022 Winter Olympics will be selected.

The Malaysian city was chosen Tuesday as the venue for the 127th session, or general assembly, of the International Olympic Committee. Lima, Peru, had been the other candidate.

The bidding process for the 2022 Games has not yet started. The IOC will select the host for the 2020 Summer Olympics at its session in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in September 2013.

...just to clarify

Kuala Lumpur is set to host the 127th International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session after it was put forward as the sole candidate for election.

The Malaysian capital was chosen by the IOC Executive Board here today following an Evaluation report which ruled out Lima, its only rival.

...

Providing the decision is formally ratified by the full IOC Session at London in July, Kuala Lumpur will become the ninth Asian city to host the event, which has been annually since 1894, apart from breaks for World Wars.

Good choice. Do you think a U.S. city will ever host an IOC session outside of their history of only hosting when a U.S. city has the Olympics?

I don't think so, since there are many cities/countries who will jump at the opportunity since it isn't feasible to host the Olympics.

congratulation to my beloved country!..and welcome to all delegation in 2015..!

May we see Denver victorious!!!

I don't know if this was true or not, but one news source stated that KL wants to host an IOC Session, in order to boost its prospects on wanting to bid for the 2024 Olympic Games.

IOC Inspects 2015 Site

The 2015 IOC Session Coordination Commission visit to Kuala Lumpur went satisfactorily.

“Overall the Commission was satisfied with the proposals submitted,” said a post on the Olympic Council of Asia website about the May 8-9 visit.

Delegates inspected the proposed venues – the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and Mandarin Oriental.

Additionally, the commission sought “assurances from the government on the issuance of visas to all participants and clarifications and details on security and the budget.”

Now the IOC must confirm the dates of the Session. The Olympic Council of Malaysia proposed July 25 to 31.
